Gold Canyon Kid #43974
The majority of the shooters at matches I attend are shooting 20 inch barrels on their 73s.
Oddnews SASS# 24779
I use the 30-inch "long" rifle -- but I've frequently wished I'd bought it at 24.
jrswanson1
When I place either of my rifles in the rack at my local shoots, they stick out, since they're both running 24" barrels. Everyone else is running 20" barrels. I don't see shorter barrels as the shorter barreled rifles usually don't hold enough cartridges to make it through a stage without reloading. SunnyDaze
We use the 16 1/2 inch Uberti 1873 357 and really like it. With the RNFP bullets you have no problem getting 10 rounds in there.
Charlie Plasters, SASS#60943
I started out with an 1889 Marlin with 20" barrel and found that with my lightning fast reflexes (sarcasm) I tended to over swing when going from one target to the next so I switched to a 73 with 24" barrel. Gold Canyon Kid #43974
Most shooters on the various posses at different matches shoot 20 inches or less length 73 barrels. Between son and I we have 6 73s all 20 inch barrels in 357. Son has a couple other 73s, 44-40 and 45 LC with longer barrels he does not shoot. rmdye
i have a 19 carbine and a 20 inch short rifle. i prefer the carbine. i guess i am weird. i got the 20 first and have had it probably for 13 years i guess. i really liked it then i found a 19 inch carbine, i had been looking for one and it has become the one i grab. i think if i like the round barrel. Cowboy Junky
We shoot through a lot of windows in the SE. The shorter barrels are better for that IMO. I like the 18's. Plenty accurate, lighter and easy to maneuver.
