Recommended Posts

I just recently bought me a 1887 shotgun .

Im not a fast shooter by any means .

I bought it because I like the style of it .

CAS is my peace of mind from the bussy life I have .

I dont take any of it seriously .

And love shooting with all the great shootes we have here in Michigan.

Im a dark side shooter

Just looking for some pointers to make things more fun

and less stressful with this shotgun :-)

I shoot an 87 in black and practise is always good. The hardest for me was not slamming the lever after the first shot. When I load I try to lower the barrel when I put in the shells. The gun is stock heavy and this works better for me. Try different ways to load and practise the way that feels best for you. I love shooting mine.Just have fun!

Stagger your shells when you drop them in. Bottom shell forward of the bottom shell.

Rolan-Your picture and text don't jive.

When you load your '87. Have the muzzle dipped down some, and when you insert the 2 shells. Slide you hand forward as this will help to chamber the top shell.

Drive it like you stole it.

Im a 92 shooter with NO issues that most have .

I run it like I stole it .

So you are saying treat the 87 the same way !

Quoted from Lumpy's post--don't know how to fix it.

Yup-

Make sure you keep the 2 carrier pivot screws 'TITE'

OLG

+1--also I'd suggest keeping a couple EWO spares on hand. Don't ask how I know this.

OK thank you .

What about loading a shorter shell .

Like a 2 3/4 trimmed to shells fully open to 2 3/4 .

And put a roll crimp on them .

This should prevent the shell from being to long after they are fired ?

Who made your 87?

Its a Chinese PW 87.

I took it apart and smoothed And polished things up .

Im just going for style not for speed :-)

Shoot only BP in your 87 <_< After a few stages, look down the barrel between shots or after the fourth shot. Easy to do if you leave the SG on your shoulder. Inside of the barrel will be glowing. Not sure how this helps you but cool none the less.

your 87 will (should) like the cut down shells.. My China 87's seem to do better with them.. Ran regular crimps fine, just seem to work a touch better with the roll.

Have been shooting 87 for bout 10 yrs both black and smokeless.

And yes, run them hard. I shoot from the hip with mine. Have fun with it

I thought the top shell should be staggered forward.....

.....anyway, I've got 4 months to practice.

I've shot LOTS of warthog level, BP loads in my 87's. Never saw the 'glowing' you speak of, even after and 8-10 shot string.

Im going to try both .

But I think the shorter shell with the roll crimp,

Will make things go a little smoother.

I cant wait till Im back on my feet .

So I can get back out and play !

To clarify, cause I can't type, I always thought the TOP shell would be staggered forward. I fixed my post.

I watch some tube of you videos of Lassister, and it looks like he has his top shell staggered forward.

My Lassiter 87 almost runs it self I load it sometime nice but most of the time I'm clumsy with the shells, pull the trigger and flick the lever and it takes off without any help from me ejecting the hull, I reach out and close it loading the second round then pull the trigger, flick the lever and start the process over or ground the gun depending

Cemetery,

You WOULD think so, but it isn't the case. Not sure why, but even the Chiappa manual shows the top shell set back from the bottom.

Smart move you will not regret it. He did my 87, one of my 73 my latest ruger bisleys and my uberti s&w no 3s with all the gunsmithing he's doing and match directing eot I don't see how he has time to shoot anymore.
