Widder, SASS #59054 Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I'm watching Sands of Iwo Jima and during the scene when they first land on the beach, one of the scenes shows a coffee cup sitting on the edge of one of the landing craft. This craft has just motored thru the water and rolled up on the beach and the Marines have crawled out of it among harsh enemy fire. They are hunkered down behind a short sea wall and right next to them is the landing craft, with what appears to be one of them 'Dixie' brand paper coffee cups sitting undisturbed on it. There are some good actual video's in the movie, although I don't know if its actual videos of that particular engagement. EDIT: after watching more of the movie, its possible that what appeared to be a coffee cup could have been an air vent or exhaust vent. Its hard to tell. ..........Widder
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 a sailor will do a lot to keep his coffee safe. and he has a squad of marines to protect it. There are other goofs listed on IMDB.COM but not yours.
Widder, SASS #59054 Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 I edited my original post because after watching more of the movie, its possible that what appeared to be a coffee cup might be an air vent or exhaust vent on that landing craft. ..........Widder
Noz Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I dunno. I drove my pick up truck 35 miles at highway speed and then thru small city traffic and arrived at work with my coffee cup sitting on my back bumper. The coffee had cooled off a bit.
Johnny Dollar Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I dunno. I drove my pick up truck 35 miles at highway speed and then thru small city traffic and arrived at work with my coffee cup sitting on my back bumper. The coffee had cooled off a bit. That's funny and amazing! I did something similar with totally different results. I was getting in my car and put my cup on top the car.... got in and started backing out and had coffee pouring down my windshield.
J-BAR #18287 Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Many years ago, our pet cat at the time hitchhiked on the spare tire cover on the back of our conversion van while my missus ran errands all over town for an hour. She found him there when she got out of the driver's seat and walked around behind the van to unload stuff from the other seat. He wasn't wet. If he sprang a leak it got lost in the draft. He was a bit wide-eyed for the rest of the day.
