Uno and I are looking at the possibility of relocating to Palm Bay, Florida. Do we have any Saloonatics that live near there? What can you tell us? Any relevant information is appreciated.

Hi Calamity,

15 years ago I was living in Palm Bay FL. At the time it seemed that most of PB was housing developments better known as bedroom comunities. There did not seem to be much "downtown" but mainly had small strip malls dispersed throughout the town. It is immediately below Melbourne which does have the bigger malls so not a problem.

Melbourne and Palm Bay adjoin each other, except for city limits signs, you can't tell one from another.

When I lived there, it seemed to be where most middle to upper middle income families lived. Of course, the town originated at the beach so the older homes are near the ocean and newer ones are inland.

If you like the ocean, and having major stores fairly close by, you should enjoy PB FL.

Having I95 run through the western part is sort of handy to get either north or south. Getting to Orlando with I95 and the Beeline highway is simple and quick.

Hope this helps. I'm sure there are others here on the 'net that can give you more up to date information.

I've lived in St Louis and Melbourne/Palm Bay--I'd move back to M/PB in a heartbeat if I could but I'd have to get divorced first! :)

Thanks for the info. Any problems with those big green lizards that have lots of teeth? Any flooding problems? We like the water but are willing to drive to it to save some money and corrosion on our vehicles.

Thanks again.

The water lizards are great for the evening news but not a problem any more than pit bulls are. You have to look at a flood zone map anythime you're looking at coastal property. Florida does get a lot of rain and some low lying neighborhoods can experience some flooding. It is not as bad as living in a Mississippi flood plain area though. The Palm Bay/Melbourne are is pretty nice. Temps are moderate and pretty stable due to sea breeze. It gets miserably hot in summer if you move too far inland like Orlando or Ocala. It is too crowded for me though, as is most of the Atlantic coast.

Calamity: Above is good info. Come on down. We have lived in area for 35+ yrs & love it.. This is Florida and there are gators mostly found in fresh water lakes/swampy areas. Not a serious problem around most populated areas. Springtime the males do wander around. Flooding depends on the individual area. We have family living in West-central Palm Bay 10+ yrs; no flooding issues. Newer areas appear to have better engineered drainage. No travel problems; I-95 runs north and 4-lains go west. Orlando parks are about an hour drive and both Orlando & Melbourne have air terminals. Within 1 to 1.5 hrs you can do SASS about every weekend: Indian River Regulators are in Palm Bay. Others in Orlando, Okeechobee, Tavares & Ruskin, Fl.

Calamity, I have now lived in Viera, FL for 19 months. It is about 20 miles North of Palm Bay just of Exit 191 ( I-95) Viera is an unincorporated area of Melbourne. It is clean, very nice and Safe! It is only 5 minutes to the Indian River and 15 to the Ocean. Golf Cart friendly and lots of great shops and Cafes. 25 minutes to Malabar Gun Club CAS) and 55 minutes to the Orlando CAS Club.

Cheers, Hoss C.

Central Arizona!

Seriously.

Darlin' the probability of work exists in Florida. Not in Arizona. At this moment, we must go where the work is..... That is the case until we have the ability to retire.

Thanks again for all the great comments. We should have a go/no-go answer sometime this week.
