Gun was not loaded, not even any rounds in the magazine tube. If "grandpa" was out hunting, would he carry an unloaded rifle?

Although very interesting, the whole story raises too many questions that can't be answered!

Magazine tube wouldn't hold any rounds because the carrier was missing.

Even without the carrier the gun could have been fired as a single shot.

Why the gun was empty.......Who knows.

How the gun got lost.......easy enough,

- could have shot an animal (deer), drug it a distance up/down hill and lost track of it's location. I have almost lost mine this way more than a few times.

- had to leave on short notice, or got taken away.

What baffles me is: How did it remain propped up all those years?

My grandpa always wanted to go to Nevada, but all he owned was a shotgun!! He had a friend that lived in Las Vegas so I'm thinking he snuck out there to Nevada and borrowed this rifle from someone. Well, it's as good a story as anyone else can make up. :P

Thanks for the update on this rifle Dutch, interesting story! ;)
