How about an Alpo-esque question

I just discovered by searching for suspender buttons that some pants have the buttons on the inside of the waistband rather than the outside that you see on the reproduction cowboy pants.

How come?

Seems like the inner button would be less in the way.

Excellent observation!!

In my former life (an aerospace executive) I wore lots of 3 piece suits, some with suspenders or braces if you will. I had a few of them custom made. One tailor asked me if I wanted the buttons on the inside so I could wear a belt if I did not want to wear the suspenders. Buttons on the inside would not interfere with the belt.

On the inside the top won't have any tendency to roll in as can happen with the buttons on the outside.

I would regularly manage to pull the buttons off (reaching, stretching, working) so I would end up using dental floss to sew buttons on both sides to keep from pulling the stitches through the fabric.

I just checked my 50 year old dress blue trousers. I remember wearing suspenders with them. The buttons are on the inside and there are belt loops.

Absolutely, A genlemen always wears a belt. But when he needs to depart the AO quickly, suspenders gets the pants up faster.
