Calamity Kris Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 The BlueCut fire is roaring through the high desert. A couple of clubs, as well as many members are in it's path. Please keep our pards in your prayers. If I get permission, I'll post some scary pictures taken by one of our pards. Cliffy, JJJ & DeJa, please take care and touch base with us when you can. Thanks

The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 The Cajon Cowboys range is in the burn area. No word on it's status, at the time of this post. OLG
Big Sage, SASS #49891 Life Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I can remember as a kid stopping at the Hilltop for breakfast on our way rabbit and quail hunting. Sad deal indeed.
Cliff Hanger #3720LR Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Kris, Fire came up West Cajon Valley and up the face of Cajon Pass. Once it topped the mountain the winds on this side where blowing north, northeast. The fire that came up West Cajon Valley turned east. I am located 6 miles due north of the 138/2 hwy intersection (the top of the mountain pass). I was under clear skies until after dark when the smoke started settling all over the high desert. The news was all over the West Cajon fire with helicopters taking video. Not until the Summit Inn caught fire did they report on the Cajon Pass (15 Hwy) part of the fire. The main problem is the winds are blowing 15 to 30 mph in the pass during the day and almost nothing at night. The Cajon pass is a big funnel and the wind follows it up the mountain, but once on this side, the wind is currently blowing east. The Pilot Fire is to the east and the two may meet which would stop the east movement. Those living over on the Baldy Mesa where evacuated. I have heard from some who do live over there, did leave, taking animals with them. Have not heard about house in that area. Short version, I am 6 miles north of where the fie cross. Fire moving east and away from me. This morning the smoke is thick. I did make a list of things to load in the truck and trailer. I was ready to take what was really important. The rest is just stuff.

I don't have a phone number for her and can't get a response from her e-mail. Mley would want someone to check on her, if possible. Any other GLB folks in harm's way?
The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 If, what I'm see'n on FB is correct. Looks like the Cajon Cowboys range has been spared, so far. Fingers still crossed OLG
Cliff Hanger #3720LR Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 1:45pm.The wind has changed directions to northerly. Time to make a list of what I want to take should I need to go. I have a small truck and a small trailer with high sides. I can take quite a bit of stuff. Just got to make sure it's the right stuff. Important papers top of the list. Cloths. Guns (they are my retirement fund) A tool box which is always ready to go. After that, it will be what ever looks important. I have most of my papers on thumb. Birth certificate and property papers need to be gathered up. (they are in one place. The safe) Anyway, not time to worry just yet. Just preparing.
Calico Mary Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 better ta be prepared and not hafta evacuate than ta leave it all til tha last second and not have anything ready.... if they say go.....GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but am prayin' and keepin' my fingers crossed fer ya that it don't come ta that....

Having a modern day laptop computer with USB ports (thumb drive), modem, portable printer, external battery backup power port, and such can be verrrry valuable if you are burned out and have to start working on insurance claims and such. The more important files you can put on your BUPC (Back Up Portable Computer), the better. Some important computer files. in PDF, Word process, Excell, (scanned) formats are: Address-phone numbers of family, relatives, business contacts, insurance agents and anything/one else home inventory with serial #'s, value, date of purchase ect bank account numbers, scanned birth certificates, death certificates, passports, and the like vehicle registrations digi-images (photos) of home inventory, property, cars, and anything else you can think of (insurance claims). credit card account #'s List of utilites, account #'s, phone numbers, auto monthly bill paying list that you may need to cancel. List of prescriptions, doctors, pharmacist , for all family/pet members If you have but minutes to evacuate, grab the computer, some cloths, cash money, medication, pets, and what other valuable you just gotta have. Point being, that laptop computer (cell phone too) with printer, extra power supply can be operated from any motel, fast food, library, whatever to get you started on recovery Ya gotta be pro active and keep your computer files updated and current. transfer pictures to digital. A digital picture is better than nothing in case you haven't got time to take down pictures from walls and such. Regular pictures are very bulky and time consuming to evacuate. Good luck,
Cliff Hanger #3720LR Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I agree with all of that. I have for years, since thumb drives, keep all things on thumb drives. I have several computers and all that is on them are programs. I have two drives that are mirrored that hold all my personal and financial on them. I have several others with photos and everything else. If I need a certain program to run my info, it's also on the thumb drive. I can put all of them in my pocket if I need to run. I do have a laptop sitting close to the front door. But I can run my drives on any PC. Over the years I kept moving my information from media to media as it changed starting with 11" floppies. I have my important stuff in three locations. I can load that stuff in 10 minutes or less. Then I can get other stuff as time allows. I have a neighbor across the road that keeps 5 acres graded off clean behind his house, (no fence) and another 5 acre lot next to him he keeps cleared off. The plan is to move the truck I can't take in to the middle of the area with his cars and leave it. The other truck has a trailer hooked up most of the time..like now. I live alone and will not have help should the time come, so I have planned for years for these events..fire and earthquakes. Floods, no, I am on a rise in the desert, the water goes around me. All suggestions are welcome because in the moment, it will help me think of what I need to do. Yes, I made a priory list. I am at the top of that list. ==================== What I find interesting is the tv news is not giving information for the area. They seem to focus on the Cajon Pass and not the little communities above the pass. So, we are on are own. Staying vigilant.

Calamity Kris Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 Not good-Gem Ranch which is very close to the Cajon Cowboys range is being evacuated. OLG Thanks for checking in, Cliff. We've got a lot of friends in harms way and wish we could do more to help you. I've been in almost constant contact with LJJ and Smiley Ed. We have a number of club members that live in the summit area, like Cliff. We also have a number of friends in Gem Ranch. Not good at all. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers. If you ever need a place to stay, and don't mind a short drive, you are welcome here. CK & UM
Birdgun Quail, SASS #63663 Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 One of my nephews is fighting that fire. Prayers up for the firefighters.
Hoseman, SASS #35541 Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I was just watching Channel 2 news Live feed from the Helicopter and it looks like Fire was in the Cajon Cowboy Range and bumping Gem Ranch

They seem to focus on the Cajon Pass and not the little communities above the pass. So, we are on are own. Staying vigilant. Just a suggestion. If you have a trusted family member or friend in the vicinity that is clearly out of harms way, move extra vehicles, the third set of data storage devices and other stuff to their location. Pay them to haul you back to your home. When coast is clear, take back your stuff. Temporarily moving gun safes with all their contents isn't a bad idea either. A five acre clearing sounds good, but the heat intensity surrounding the area as the wall of fire jumps the clearing will probably torch whatever is in the clearing. Good luck
Ace_of_Hearts Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 It looks like the worst has happened. The Cajon Cowboy Range was eaten by the fire. https://scontent.flas1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13934607_1168954129813199_4619704756332803665_n.jpg?oh=f13de9c211370aa7d3581c15c32b6a28&oe=58463A71 With luck it didn't melt the targets.
Yul Lose Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Candy just posted that the range has been hit pretty hard.
Rye Miles #13621 Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Prayers up for all you Cal. pards affected, stay safe!!
Cliff Hanger #3720LR Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I was up and out side sitting on the front porch about 4:30am. Being dark, I should have been able to see the fire and I could. I looks like it is still on the south side of the 138/ 2 hwy or the canyon to Wrightwood. I have not been to town (Phelan) Tuesday morning. I do not know if the fire made it over the hill. The wind changed directions several times during the night. But the wind direction on this side of the mountain top does not tell me what direction the wind is in West Cajon Valley or Cajon Pass. I am about 7 miles from where I see the fire. I hope this is far enough. There are shooting friends who live in the areas that the fire went through. I have heard from and about a few couple of them. They left their homes when told to evacuate. Can only wait and hope to find out if their homes survived.
The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Heart breaking Have lots of good memories with Cajon Cowboys and that range. Respectfully, OLG
