M1 carbine - .22. Any experience

Do a search on them. Mixed reviews. Lots of criticism over cheap plastic parts. Get a Ruger 10-22. Looks pretty much like a M1 carbine and is dead reliable and made in the USA.

I bought one with the wooden stock and it operates just fine. The magazine is a fragile plastic but works fine. I have talked to some and they were not as happy as I am for reliability. It was about $250 I think and decent for the price. My original M-1 carbine is fun to shoot but the 22 model makes it fun for plinking. Good luck.

Iver Johnson made one and people who have owned them said that they were pretty good. You might look around for one on the auction sites.

Here is one: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/575229484 There is at least one other listing.

Marlin made couple of models through the 1990s that have the M1 Carbine look and feel.

Ruger has an annivesary model 10/22 that has the apeture sights like an M1 Carbine. Ruger makes fifteen round mags for the Charger that will fit the 10/22.

Take any old 10/22 and get this stock from Brownells and you won't be disappointed. Brownells even has the sling as well.

I myself was going to do the same thing before the takedown became available.

Howdy,

There are companies that make aftermarket parts to make the 10/22 look a LOT like

the M1 carbine. Most 10/22s already look a bit like the M1 carbine anyhow.

Note that the M1 carbine is not that great for hunting or target shooting.

Its prime for buying shooting a little then taking up space and money.

Perhaps shoot a 10/22 and read books about the M1 carbine?

Best

Ruger is making a M1 Carbine lookalike. It is a TALO Exclusive. https://www.lipseys.com/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=RU1022-M1C-15. Let me know I'd be happy to order one for you and transfer to your dealer.

I've read some reviews, but I only put so much stock in reviews. Some give it 5 stars, they love it, but haven't shot it yet. I myself am more likely to write a review to warn others off, not as often if it is O.K. That is why I am looking for first hand from pards I can trust.

Many Thanks.
