Texan Shoots Steel in Tennessee

Recommended Posts

Back in August of 2014 I posted about a trip I took to California in late July of that year for a National Conference and drove so I could shoot CAS matches while I was there. Here is a link to that post: http://sassnet.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=225727&hl=%2Btexan+%2Bshoots+%2Bsteel

Then later in November of 2014 I had another national conference to attend this time in Orlando FL and drove again so I could shoots CAS matches while I was there. Here is a link to that post: http://www.sassnet.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=230692&hl=%2Btexan+%2Bshoots+%2Bsteel

The National Conference in 2015 was in Chicago so I flew there and back, as I did not want to take firearms into that city. The 2016 National Conference was July in Nashville Tennessee so I looked for clubs on the way there and back to see where I might be able to stop and shoot either before or after the conference. I found the Memphis Gunslingers were shooting the Saturday before the conference and I corresponded with Hot Lead Lefty via email to verify the shoot and details. On Friday July 8th I drove from Fort Worth Texas to North East Memphis area and to the range on Saturday morning for the shoot.

Their cowboy range is located inside the Memphis Sport Shooing Association complex that has ranges for many different disciplines. http://memphis-ssa.net/ I arrived early and met two gentlemen who also arrived early; they stated setting up getting ready for the match so I walked around and took photos before the match. A lot of the stages have structures that you shoot out of providing cover from the sun and there are also fans that help with the temperature. We only shot 5 stages but I’ve got photos of all the stages. We all shot on one posse and they did scoring on an iPad so the results were ready shortly after we completed the match. I shot Frontier Cartridge Duelist and if I remember correctly was the only one shooting a smoking category. After the match about 2/3rds stayed to eat a simple lunch, visit and hear the results. I had a great time and was made to feel welcome. They will be hosing the 2017 Southeast Regional Championship at this club and I would suggest if get a chance, go shoot with these fine folks.

This Texan truly enjoyed my time in Tennessee and I have now shot CAS in 12 states. Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Florida, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Later in this same trip I will next get to shoot in Kentucky after the conference, but that will be a separate post.

I changed out of my cowboy duds and drove to Nashville for the conference. Since I did not check in for the conference until late on Monday I had time on Sunday and Monday to so some tourist sight-seeing. So on Sunday spent most of the day at Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage and then toured the Belmont Mansion. Photos are not allowed inside the Hermitage mansion so all my photos are outside and the same is true for the Belmont Mansion. http://thehermitage.com/ http://www.belmontmansion.com/ Then on Monday I went to the Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame. http://countrymusichalloffame.org/ I took a few photos inside but not a lot, one set is of the Gretsch Guitar Display, one set of a car with a cowboy theme complete with firearms mounted on the car, and another set within the Hall of Fame room showing the plaques.
