Chaplains were called "Sky Pilots" in the Air Force.

Firemen were "hose draggers"

Air Police were "APes"

Any aircraft crewman not a pilot was a "crew dog"

Pilots were "Sir!" While the rest of us sat on the base waiting for them to come back they were busy getting shot at. They were the reason the rest of us were here and they got a lot of respect. from all us "ground pounders"

Non flying officers were "Penguins"

Sailors were "Anchor Clankers"
Marines were "ex football players"

And Marines are in The Department of the Navy, The Men's Department. :D

The Marines fight for a living. They keep the Navy around for transport services, chow, admin functions, housing, and places to put our barracks.

Did you ever notice that the Navy doesn't have much to do with guns that have a bore smaller than 8".

And when the Marines were looking for "a few good men", they found them as Navy Corpsman.

Yes they did. The "Doc" is revered mightily by Marines.

Also, I never saw a chaplain of almost any faith who was called anything but "Padre", even Rabbis.

Brings to mind the old Navy saying "Mine is bigger than yours".

I am told by a former Sea Bee (CBs) that they didn't appreciate being referred to as Cooks and Bakers.

I also was informed that the Navy men that worked below decks, engine room, drive line operators were referred to as BTs. Boiler Technicians.

I thought it was the Marines that referred to the Navy seamen as sea going bellhops. At last that is what the Sea Daddy told me but he was a former jarhead and may have been prejudiced.

When I was in the 11th, every time my CO would see me, he would say something along the lines of "SGT Ward, are you STILL a leg?" SGT Ward, haven't you gotten to Jump School yet?" My typical response was "No Sir, I haven't made it to Benning in the past twenty minutes..."
