Sedalia Dave Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 US Air Force Is Planning to Build a Super A-10 Warthog Following an announcement earlier this year from Pentagon leaders that the A-10 will not begin retiring but rather will serve until at least 2022, Air Force and DoD officials are now hoping to keep a close-air-support aircraft for many years beyond the previously projected timeframe.
Chantry Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I'll believe it when it happens because I don't believe the Air Force being honest about wanting an A-10 replacement. I have little doubt that the majority of us here could find ways to fund the A-10 within the current AF budget.
Loophole LaRue, SASS #51438 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Some other thoughts, and an interesting video of Sen. McCain on the issue. http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/the-air-force-initiative-to-replace-the-a-10-warthog-is-1771018719 I'm a pure observer, but it sounds to me as if the USAF is riding this issue in an effort to get more dollars; as the testifying General said, "The Air Force needs to get bigger". My amateur analysis is that the A-10 is one heck of a fighting machine; if I were on the ground and getting chewed up, I'd be praying to see one on the horizon. If I were a bad guy and one showed up, I'd be running like hell. Of course, this is anecdotal observation only. LL
Irish Pat Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Pilots are a thing of the past war. Next war will be drones.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Pilots are a thing of the past war. Next war will be drones. A drone with a 30 mm cannon
