what is a dashiki?

Popular in the female black community in the 60's and 70's. No religious significance then....a fashion fad. A long flowing shapeless dress-like garment, tribal-type designs.....originated in Africa(?).

My neighbors (wife and girls) wore them. I thought them attractive (the girls were attractive anyway). :-) :-) . The husband and older son thought they were goofy......the younger son wisely kept his mouth shut.

Edit 2

The other night Fox (O'Reily) showed a photo of bracko wearing something like it at a relative's muslim wedding some years ago. Not sure I'd call the garment he wore in those photos as a dashiki. I recall no religious significance attached to the dashiki in the 60's and 70's when they were popularized as as a women's fashion.
