Johnny Loco
How does it run? Opinions please
Tracker Jack Daniels,58780
Out of the box most '92s are rough. I have two that have been worked over by Nate Kiowa Jones, and they runn like greased lightning. Also have on that was worked over by Huckleberry, and it also is smooth and fast. Most shooters cannot out run a good slicked up '92. Even with a quality action job they will cost you far less than a '73 or '66.
Griff
Are you asking about a "Winchester" brand or "Rossi" built rifle? For there is a difference.
Johnny Loco
Absolutely Winchester, thats why I was perplexed about the smoothness comment. I ain't much on any of the knock offs but sometimes you gotta work with what you can get.
Abe E.S. Corpus SASS #87667
The 1892 has a compact and strong receiver but even at its best it cannot run as smoothly and fast as the 1873/1866 action. The current Winchester 1892 is about as expensive as a '73.
Tom Bullweed
If you already have the rifle, get it tuned and enjoy it. 92s will tend to like a narrow range of overall cartridge length, so find a length that feeds well and stick to it. The 92 is not the gun that is used by shooters in shooting sub-20 24 round stages. It is a very sturdy gun that will give good reliability. Shooter 25 second stages is a reasonable expectation for a dedicated 92 shooter. If I ever leave cowboy action, I likely keep my original 92 in.38-40 and my engraved OMV. Nimble Fingers SASS# 25439
I have two Winchester 92's and a Browning 92, a JW commemorative in .44-40/.44 special and the other two are in .44 mag. I am not a competitive shooter, and saying that they are more than smooth enough for me! The Browning is a carbine as is the JW, the other Winchester is a rifle, 24 inch barrel. I like them all. Just traded my 1873 plus some other goodies for a Colt Buntline and won;t look back until I save enough for a New Winchester 1873 and 1866 from Moriku (sp?). As I said I am not competitive, just enjoy shooting the guns. Nimble Fingers
