I thought it was a rule......

Dang It Dan 13202

Recommended Posts

While reading the "Sweeping while drawing/holstering" thread, it reminded me that I wanted to start this thread......

Here is a good place to share "rules" that you've heard or been told that really aren't rules. Like this:

1. If you wear a cross-draw holster, you MUST do the dance.

Please feel free to add to this list.

1. You have to holster each pistol in turn as soon as you fire the 5th shot.

2. You cannot safely stage one pistol while you fire the other.

4. Don't be a "hard-ass". means that enforcement of rules & assessment of penalties is OPTIONAL...at all levels of competition.

It is also acceptable for the entire posse to vote on whether & how to penalize a shooter for a rule violation.

Native American/NDN/Injun targets are non-PC and should be banned from all ranges...y'all might hurt someone's li'l feelings or offend the emotionally unstable in an environment that permits access to loaded firearms.

:o

...but targets & props depicting Mexican banditos (Big Juans & Little Juans), WASP outlaws, bankers, and lawyers are OK...recommended to NOT paint them targets BLACK lest someone file a lawsuit claiming we're practicing for "Helter Skelter".

The cross draw dance was one reason I went from duelist to double duelist and eventually gunfighter. When I started, I use a cross draw holster - actually, two right hand holsters as that's what I had. Every time I got to the pistol part of the program, the TO would bark, "DON'T FORGET TO TURN!". It would always rattle me.

BP shooters all need to be on the same posse.

If the entire posse shoots a stage clean except you, you have to buy the beer for the whole posse...

no, wait, I think maybe that is a real rule...

If it's not it should be!!!!!!!!!!

Cap 'n ball revolvers must be shot one-handed.

Revolvers cannot be drawn while moving.

Socks visible is a costume violation.

One cannot shoot BP in one firearm and then smokeless in another.

Muff-type hearing protection is prohibited as it doesn't look 19th century.

Trousers must be held up with braces and tucked into boots. Zippers are only allowed in B-Western.

38 Special was never a BP round and cannot be used in Plainsman matches.

One cannot switch back and forth between pump shotguns and SxSs in a multi-stage match.

Carrying a hammered shotgun from the LT to its intended shooting position with the hammers cocked is a MDQ.

Rifle staged flat means you can prop it up on the saddle ring.

Default starting position is hunched over like a track star with hand(s) hovering over first gun.

It's P if you aim at the wrong target and miss

Wow, I've seen that called just recently! Couldn't talk sense into the rest of the spotters, either.

Good luck, GJ
