Jim No Horse Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 The best....the worst...funny ones...stories that got you your alias...alias that are available for new shooters. At my Chemo Clinic no one had ever heard of cowboy action shooting till I showed up....now they call me cowboy (I always wear a period shirt, vest and my hat) the nurses I am close to call me Chemo Sabe. Its all good, it makes me smile...life is grand! Jim
Grizzly Dave Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Chemo Sabe! LOL, that is great! I've worn a beard since, well, pretty much forever and have been called Grizzly Dave since long before I found Cowboy Action Shooting. Comes from the Grizzly Adams TV show I guess. Before I joined SASS I shot a couple of matches as 'Grumpy Grizzly' but more than one person commented to me that with that big ol' grin on my face after shooting I didn't look too grumpy. So when I joined up I just went with 'Grizzly Dave' and that's what I routed into the lid of my cart box. After a few years I had thoughts of changing it as some would call me Dave at matches, and as I'm Dave in real life I wasn't sure I wanted to be Dave when playing cowboy. I came up with a few alternatives at the time, but in the end decided to stick with what I've got. Now most folks around the game just call me 'Grizz' which is what I prefer. Heck, even some folks at church who have never been to a CAS match now call me Grizz. More than once I've caught myself signing a work email 'Grizz' Hang in there Cowboy. Grizz
Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 I got mine from this calling card. It belonged to a Great Aunt.
Roger Rapid Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 I picked "Roger Rapid" because I thought it would fool the scorekeepers to write down faster times! That didn't work. In fact, I think sometimes it backfires! RR
Roger Rapid Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 In fact, I think I'll change my alias to "Clean." That way when I leave the stage and someone says, "who was that?" they'll have to yell "CLEAN!" RR
Chickahominy Charlie Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 I think a lot of shooters select an alias and have second thoughts later. Chickahominy is the name of an Indian tribe and a river I grew up fishing on when I was a kid in Virginia. Charlie was what they called my Dad. So, it was an alias that paid homage to my childhood home and Dad. Too bad it's such a mouthful. Most people just call me Chick. 😊
J-BAR #18287 Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 J-Bar was my paternal grandfather's cattle brand and his nickname. But if my arthritis gets much worse my alias will change to Gnarly Hans
El Hombre Sin Nombre Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 In fact, I think I'll change my alias to "Clean." That way when I leave the stage and someone says, "who was that?" they'll have to yell "CLEAN!" RR That's a great idea. I think I will change mine to "Clean and a P" so that way people get so used to saying it, they won't score it when it actually happens thinking it's just my name haha.
Chicken Scratch Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 I started out as Mississippi Kid because my family was from Mississippi. But because I scratch my feet before I shoot every one called me Chicken Scratch and it stuck so I was named by the cowboys I shoot with………I think Chance Ramsey was the first to call me that Scratch
Rye Miles #13621 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I got mine from this calling card. It belonged to a Great Aunt. How cool!!!!
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Prairie Dogs have always been one of my favorite animals. When I lived in San Diego, we were always SD zoo members, and I used to sit & watch them endlessly. After moving to Cleveland & the browns famous "Dawg Pound", it seemed a natural. Actually though, I never should have been allowed to take the name, as there already was a "Prairie Dog", and "Prairie Dawg" sounded the same but was spelled differently. Didn't know about him when I put in the Alias request. Never met him, as he's from the West & I don't get back much anymore. But we've chatted a bit & have done business and he's a straight-up guy. I just tell folks that he's my cousin --Dawg
Fillmore Coffins, SASS #7884 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Trenmore Coffin was a lawyer in Carson City, Nevada around the time the Mint was in operation. I was an avid collector of Carson City coins sooo.... Fillmore
Shooting Bull Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Ohhhhhhhhh where to begin? Let's just say that if/when you meet me in person you'll understand.
Yul Lose Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Started out with the alias of Hoss Hungright but my wife absolutely hated it so I was checking aliases on the alias look up link and I had seen a car with YUL LUZ on the license plate that day so I changed it to Yul Lose and sure enough it was available and that's who I've been ever since.
Hellbender Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I'm fond of amphibians (frogs and salamanders) so it was a no-brainer when it came to picking an alias: I named myself after the largest, most ferocious salamander in the US, the hellbender
Molasses Mike Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Molasses Mike... Molasses in winter describes my speed in cas shooting. M.M.
Painted Mohawk SASS 77785 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Howdy Pretty much a no brainer for me..I don't like hats or shirt sleeves & have a keen interest for the American Indian so add that to my 'Mohawk haircut & love of tattoo's & Painted Mohawk it is !!! The funniest I've come across is one of my mates = Sir Kim Sizer, registered in Australia but not with SASS.
Jim No Horse Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Mike...We should shoot together....my pals tell me what I lack in speed and accuracy I make up with slow transitions.....lol...love my cow pals...Jim
Mad Dane, SASS#5536 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 My Mom, who was of Danish blood, loved the comedian Victor Borge, who was often called the Mad Dane. So I took the alias partly in her memory, and partly because, well, I live up to it sometimes.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I can be timed with a sundial! --Slow Dawg
Krazy Kajun Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I've thought about changing my alias to "One More" or "Next shooter" but didn't. Kajun
Rye Miles #13621 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I've had 3 alias'….Yea I know pretty goofy huh? I started off as Kid Tucson because I had just got back from Arizona on a vacation and fell in love with it. I got a little tired of the "kid" thing so I changed it to a little known comic book character, Bat Lash, well I wanted a real historic name, someone who represented the real old west and reading the book The Arizona Rangers by Bill ONeal, the name Rye Miles just jumped out at me. I've had that alias for over 10 years now. Sgt. J.T. "Rye" Miles, an Arizona Ranger, Sheriff of Tucson, Constable of Benson, he was born in Texas and was a cattleman. He ended his law enforcement career as a prison guard at Yuma State prison. He killed 4 men in his career, married and had 6 children he died peacefully at his home in Casa Grande, Az at the age of 76.
Molasses Mike Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I can be timed with a sundial! --Slow Dawg When I shoot they drive a stake beside my boot and check my progress with a feeler gauge. M.M.
Cemetery Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I was on a big spaghetti western kick when I started CAS, and those movies had the best names for characters, so I pondered all of the following (which are still available)... Sartana Django Johnny Guitar Johnny Hamlet Johnny Texas Black Stranger Trinity Nobody Johnny Oro Holy Ghost Reverend Colt Silence Sabata But after hearing the line 'you're giving the Undertaker so much work, he's gonna start calling you Cemetery', I decided that was name for me.
Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Trinity is not taken? I knew a TG named Trinity. I hope he's okay. Also, Ruby Redsmoke's Hubby is named Trinity. However, I think he only shoots in the Oz area.
Griff Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 A quick search on two words, "how" and "alias" drug up two threads that might prove enlightening, even if somewhat repetitive... Funniest Aliases from 2014 & ...Best Alias... from 2014. Might be interesting to see how stories have changed. Trinity is not taken? I knew a TG named Trinity. I hope he's okay. Also, Ruby Redsmoke's Hubby is named Trinity. However, I think he only shoots in the NZ area. Fixed that for ya... Saying Oz and NZ are in the same "area", is like saying NY & CA are in the same area... As a Kiwi, I find that notion offensive, as would a few 'Roos!
Jim No Horse Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Jim No Horse....got several folks asked about my alias. Don't know how to post those blue links everyone does so if you want the story go to You Tube: search for Jim No Horse go to part 2 (its a 2 part video) go to 50 minutes on the run time and walah...you to can hear the story of my alias. I cannot type that much plus the cowboys in those vids are funnier and better looking than me...lol...Thanks Jim
Dusty Sometimes Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Dusty Sometimes Because sometimes (every other weekend) I'm Dusty and sometimes I'm Kevin....
Jim No Horse Posted May 25, 2016 Author Posted May 25, 2016 Dusty..thats a hoot...I wondered about your alias. ...very cool...
watab kid Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 i just took the name of the river in my back yard and the "kid" that my shootin pals laughed at - im the elder of the crowd
Two Spurs Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Short and sweet- I have two spurs- similar but different- not a "pair" of spurs.
Kulshan 20262 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 It's the original name of the predominant mountain near where I was born and raised, and I wanted a one word alias.
Boggus Deal #64218 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 My good friend, Billy Boots, gave me my alias but as a salesman with the last name Boggus, how could it be anything else?
Sue Render Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I like the play on words names. Celia Fate and Bev Ridge were my alternate choices.
Reuben McCoy Rankin # 34239 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 J-Bar was my paternal grandfather's cattle brand and his nickname. But if my arthritis gets much worse my alias will change to Gnarly Hans That would be a good one!!!
