The best....the worst...funny ones...stories that got you your alias...alias that are available for new shooters. At my Chemo Clinic no one had ever heard of cowboy action shooting till I showed up....now they call me cowboy (I always wear a period shirt, vest and my hat) the nurses I am close to call me Chemo Sabe. Its all good, it makes me smile...life is grand! Jim

Chemo Sabe! LOL, that is great!

I've worn a beard since, well, pretty much forever and have been called Grizzly Dave since long before I found Cowboy Action Shooting. Comes from the Grizzly Adams TV show I guess.

Before I joined SASS I shot a couple of matches as 'Grumpy Grizzly' but more than one person commented to me that with that big ol' grin on my face after shooting I didn't look too grumpy. So when I joined up I just went with 'Grizzly Dave' and that's what I routed into the lid of my cart box. After a few years I had thoughts of changing it as some would call me Dave at matches, and as I'm Dave in real life I wasn't sure I wanted to be Dave when playing cowboy. I came up with a few alternatives at the time, but in the end decided to stick with what I've got.

Now most folks around the game just call me 'Grizz' which is what I prefer. Heck, even some folks at church who have never been to a CAS match now call me Grizz. More than once I've caught myself signing a work email 'Grizz'

Hang in there Cowboy.

I picked "Roger Rapid" because I thought it would fool the scorekeepers to write down faster times!

That didn't work.

In fact, I think sometimes it backfires!

In fact, I think I'll change my alias to "Clean." That way when I leave the stage and someone says, "who was that?" they'll have to yell "CLEAN!"

I think a lot of shooters select an alias and have second thoughts later. Chickahominy is the name of an Indian tribe and a river I grew up fishing on when I was a kid in Virginia. Charlie was what they called my Dad. So, it was an alias that paid homage to my childhood home and Dad. Too bad it's such a mouthful. Most people just call me Chick. 😊

J-Bar was my paternal grandfather's cattle brand and his nickname. But if my arthritis gets much worse my alias will change to

That's a great idea. I think I will change mine to "Clean and a P" so that way people get so used to saying it, they won't score it when it actually happens thinking it's just my name haha.

I started out as Mississippi Kid because my family was from Mississippi.

But because I scratch my feet before I shoot every one called me Chicken Scratch

and it stuck

so I was named by the cowboys I shoot with………I think Chance Ramsey was the first to call me that

I got mine from this calling card. It belonged to a Great Aunt.

Prairie Dogs have always been one of my favorite animals. When I lived in San Diego, we were always SD zoo members, and I used to sit & watch them endlessly. After moving to Cleveland & the browns famous "Dawg Pound", it seemed a natural.

Actually though, I never should have been allowed to take the name, as there already was a "Prairie Dog", and "Prairie Dawg" sounded the same but was spelled differently. Didn't know about him when I put in the Alias request. Never met him, as he's from the West & I don't get back much anymore. But we've chatted a bit & have done business and he's a straight-up guy.

I just tell folks that he's my cousin :D

Started out with the alias of Hoss Hungright but my wife absolutely hated it so I was checking aliases on the alias look up link and I had seen a car with YUL LUZ on the license plate that day so I changed it to Yul Lose and sure enough it was available and that's who I've been ever since.

I'm fond of amphibians (frogs and salamanders) so it was a no-brainer when it came to picking an alias: I named myself after the largest, most ferocious salamander in the US, the hellbender :P

Howdy

Pretty much a no brainer for me..I don't like hats or shirt sleeves & have a keen interest for the American Indian so add that to my 'Mohawk haircut & love of tattoo's & Painted Mohawk it is !!!

The funniest I've come across is one of my mates = Sir Kim Sizer, registered in Australia but not with SASS.

My Mom, who was of Danish blood, loved the comedian Victor Borge, who was often called the Mad Dane. So I took the alias partly in her memory, and partly because, well, I live up to it sometimes. ;)

I've had 3 alias'….Yea I know pretty goofy huh? I started off as Kid Tucson because I had just got back from Arizona on a vacation and fell in love with it. I got a little tired of the "kid" thing so I changed it to a little known comic book character, Bat Lash, well I wanted a real historic name, someone who represented the real old west and reading the book The Arizona Rangers by Bill ONeal, the name Rye Miles just jumped out at me. I've had that alias for over 10 years now.

;) Sgt. J.T. "Rye" Miles, an Arizona Ranger, Sheriff of Tucson, Constable of Benson, he was born in Texas and was a cattleman. He ended his law enforcement career as a prison guard at Yuma State prison. He killed 4 men in his career, married and had 6 children he died peacefully at his home in Casa Grande, Az at the age of 76. ;)

I was on a big spaghetti western kick when I started CAS, and those movies had the best names for characters, so I pondered all of the following (which are still available)...

Sartana

Django

Johnny Guitar

Johnny Hamlet

Johnny Texas

Black

Stranger

Trinity

Nobody

Johnny Oro

Holy Ghost

Reverend Colt

Silence

Sabata

But after hearing the line 'you're giving the Undertaker so much work, he's gonna start calling you Cemetery', I decided that was name for me.

A quick search on two words, "how" and "alias" drug up two threads that might prove enlightening, even if somewhat repetitive...

Funniest Aliases from 2014 & ...Best Alias... from 2014. Might be interesting to see how stories have changed.

Trinity is not taken? I knew a TG named Trinity. I hope he's okay. Also, Ruby Redsmoke's Hubby is named Trinity. However, I think he only shoots in the NZ area.

Fixed that for ya... Saying Oz and NZ are in the same "area", is like saying NY & CA are in the same area... As a Kiwi, I find that notion offensive, as would a few 'Roos! :D:D
