One of you folks (Waimea) had a very good suggestion. I forwarded it to my contact a few minutes ago.

Still chuckling about Waiamea's head swelling, I've used a similar line when complimented myself ...

... something about that odd hissing sound as my head inflates to a shocking diameter ...

Miz Allie, bless you for your kindnesses and for your good work, with some of those spamming scoundrels it's like trying to bail the North Sea with a two gallon bucket!

I understand your frustration. However, there is nothing more the Moderators can do.

I believe IP Forum software can be set to require approval prior to a new member being added and able to post. This would only delay New members from posting for a very short time.

A short delay would prevent these types of posts occurring overnight.

most forum software has options - you can't start a topic until you have so many read, replies to etc.

Often new people need their new posts or threads approved.

i've been on some forums that force a captcha type deal for the first so many posts and so many new threads - stops automation until the person is around long enough (50 posts if I recall) then the captcha turns off.

That is pretty close to Waimea's suggestion.

Some forum administrators do not turn on the thread approval switch because they think it is too much trouble to check every day or even more often for new threads that need to be approved.

However , deleting the hacker IP address, one by one, takes more time in my opinion.

Folks, talking about spammers and trolls just encourages them. That's how they know people are seeing what they've done. Why do you think Kim Jong Un shoots his mouth off so often? Nobody takes him seriously. He only does it for the attention. It's the same with spammers, so let's quit giving it to them.

On most of the forums I've been on over the past 30 years, the first rule of dealing with trolls is you don't talk about the trolls in public. I suggest we do the same here.
