Ornery Cuss
Can't believe he's handling 'the worlds most valuable rifle' with his bare hands! It's a beauty, though. Ornery Cuss
John Barleycorn, SASS #76982
Can't believe he's handling 'the worlds most valuable rifle' with his bare hands! It's a beauty, though. Ornery Cuss It's just steel and wood. Nothing a proper wipe down won't take care of. I think the guys with white gloves holding an old gun is silly. YMMV
Trailrider #896
Wonder if Lawton actually packed it around. IIRC, Geronimo surrendered in '86, and if the rifle is actually the first production piece, it was probably chambered for the Army's .45-70. But the Indian Wars were over for the most part (Wounded Knee excepted, of course). So Lawton might have used it for hunting. I purely love the '86, but that would be a tad expensive for my budget! Badlands Bob #61228
Replace those horrible sites, short stroke kit and a little spring work and it might be a decent rifle.
