Las Vegas area gun regulations

Recommended Posts

I have a good friend who is active in modern shooting sports ho works for the Park Service in water management. He has just been transferred to Hoover Dam. He has a number of firearms including several NFA ones (full-auto, suppressed, etc.). Are there any local regulations in Boulder City, Henderson, Clark County, or Las Vegas he should be aware of?? THANKS

Yes. But I can't say exactly what they are. He needs to check with the county and cities. Seems to me North Las Vegas was different than LasVegas and LasVegas was different than Clark county.

Call LV police. They used to require any guns brought into the city limits to be registered with them. And they had issues with concealed carry as in not allowing it even if you had a Nevada permit. But I think the recent legislature over-rode LV laws.

AH the heck with it, call each jurisdiction.

If he's moving there with NFA firearms, he'll probably need to notify the ATF that he's moving. They really like to keep track of where those "dangerous" firearms are.

Basically, none. For federally regulated firearms and weapons, you still have to meet the federal requirements, though. We used to have to register all handguns in Clark County, but that regulation was lifted two or three years ago. Open carry is allowed, but generally, not a good idea; it creates a lot of tension in the public, and will likely get certain attention from law enforcement. Of course, concealed carry is by permit only.

Not sure who "they" is but if you have a valid NV CCW you're good to go. Only restrictions are gubmint buildings. No carry in those.

People sometimes get wrapped around the axle when going to casinos or any other private business and they see a "No firearms" sign. Those signs do NOT carry the weight of law so you are not doing anything illegal by carrying in places that have those signs. That being said, if they catch you carrying they're going to ask you to leave. When they ask you to leave, do it. If you put up a fuss you WILL get nailed for trespassing and you can kiss your CCW permit good-bye.
