Musket Query

Recommended Posts

I am considering the purchase of a 72 caliber musket. I know to subtract 10 or 15 thousandths to determine the size patched ball to use.

Maybe I didn't look long enough, but I looked at my usual sources and couldn't find that big a ball. This was a common size during the revolutionary war?

Help?

I can't remember whether I looked at Dixie or not. The biggest ball I found on Lee precisions site was .690 which is 30 thousandths that would be about the thickness of blue Jean material?

I used a .690 ball with a heavy patch out of a cap-lock 12 ga. with great success. I had found a Lyman .690 mould and cast my own.
