How many of you are members of the clubs you shoot at?

Down here in The Republic you can shoot as a member or a visitor/guest.

Members pay a membership fee and their match costs are less

(This arrangement is probably the same throughout the U.S. of A.)

It's not uncommon for some to shoot every weekend with a different club

Just curious how many join all the clubs they shoot with

p.s. I'm a member of both TRR and WHC

I shoot at two clubs regularly, and two more now and then. I am not a dues paying member of any of them nor the host ranges.

Why? Either they don't have or encourage membership in any way, or it isn't financially beneficial to me.

I do have good intentions of ponying up the membership fee for the club I consider my home club just to support them, but as yet I haven't gotten around to it. I do however try to do my part to promote and work for the clubs as I am able.

I am a member of two of the three clubs I shoot at monthly to support them.

At the third club it's mandatory to join the main gun club first and then I can join the CAS club. I won't join the main club because drive distance is just to far to shoot there.

I'm lucky, I can shoot in my back yard.

Interesting topic, it made me stop and think for a moment about my situation!

I am a member of my local club and pay yearly dues as well as a fee for each monthly match I shoot. I think being a dues paying member is important since I know there are expenses like insurance, cost of targets , tables, props, paint for the targets, paper forms and just general expenses not to mention the trailer to haul all the stuff in. I also have been visiting a nearby club 95 miles away and pay their "guest" fee to shoot. Now that I think about it though, I have been visiting almost regularly and really enjoy shooting with the folks so why not join their club and help out by lightening the financial load of the existing members rather than just show up, shoot then leave.

This past weekend I visited another club a little farther away and enjoyed the experience tremendously since I never shot a match where there were 38 shooters on two posses. and being retired with nothing better to do, the three hour drive each way isn't all that bad since most of it is a relaxing scenic drive. If I return a few times, I might just join up and make that a regular match as well.

Thanks for the thoughts!

I pay the yearly membership dues at my regular club and do it with a smile. Glad to help support it, and feel fortunate to have it there.

I shoot at seven sass clubs but four of those are only once or twice a year. The other three i am a member at i am also a member at two other gun ranges. Do i get my money's worth by year end.. Probably not but some of the clubs are struggling and every penny counts. I only pay about 200 a year total but to me if my little bit helps keep a way to exercise my 2nd amm. Rights then it's worth it. I can shoot for free at my dad's farm or the farm we are getting. But I'm lucky and i know it.

3 clubs I shoot at regularly accept members, so I am a member.

The 4th is part of the gun club. I am not a member of that gun club, because it's too far away

Some clubs charge $10 and with a discount to shoot it's free after 2 shoots. I join.
Another is $35 and I can't make enough shoots to justify it.

the club I'm starting is 'paid for' by the main club. I'm offering discounts to sass and main club members, and low cost ($1) membership to the cowboy club for sass members.

Other than the discount on a shoot I don't see any benefit to joining. But then I'm more used to other types of competitive shooting and there are no 'local' clubs like cowboy. Maybe you need to be an NRA member or IDPA national member, have a CMP number or such, but you only pay when you enter a match.

I am a life member of the Kaskaskia Cowboys in Sparta Il. I joined when they first started and bought the life membership to help them get started. I have been a dues paying member of Oak Park Sportsman's Club in Plainfield, Il since 1992 and we started the cowboy group in 1994. OPSC has more things to do than just cowboy and you have to be a annual member for 25 years before you can be a Life Member, I have 1 more year to go to be a Life Member and I will continue to support them. I have not joined any local clubs in Alabama since I came here last year since I have not shot anywhere consistently. I may join a club in the future, however the closest club to me uses a range that you have to join yearly or pay a daily fee and everywhere else is over an hour drive away. Right now it make better sense to pay the non-member fees and travel to new places that I have not been on the weekends and meet new people. My goal this year is to shoot every club within 200 miles once this year and I have already gotten a good start.

We have about 10 active shooters that are members of the local club that host the cowboy shooting events. We make up "the committee", that is do almost all the grunt work.

Everyone pays $10 match fee. The match revenue is split with the club general fund an a fund we use to support the cowboy range.

All of the dues paying members live within convenient distance to use the range at any time. Guest only shoot on match days.

I'm a dues paying member of 2 clubs. shoot at a 3rd fairly regularly. Probably ought to join..

What I think more clubs need than dues paying members are members who are willing to go out on work days and help build new stages, repair targets, trim trees, rake shotgun wads, and a bunch of other jobs. Or even on match days help put out and pick up props, empty garbage cans, etc. I try to arrive at my home club early enough to do a "wasp patrol" checking each stage and loading/unloading table for wasp nests. this time of year I usually see at least on every stage. many times 2 or 3.

The clubs that are a little further I at least try to help put out and pick up props. In other words, don't just sit in the boat and fish, grab an oar every once in a while!

Wife and I are members of two clubs which we shoot at regularly. Two or Three other clubs off and on but not members as these are hour to hour & a half one way.

We do travel various states for other shoots out side Arizona during the year.

Annual club membership dues at $20 or $25 around here. I belong to four clubs, shoot at two nearby every month, the other two are out of state and I probably only shoot at those clubs a couple of times a year. But I like them to know I support them, and I appreciate them being there when I get a chance to visit them. If I were faced with very high membership dues I might cut back, but I know my dues money is going to be well spent at these clubs. Compared to other expenses we face in this sport, it's not much.

I am a member of 4 cowboy clubs:

GA Piedmont Regulators - (Where the Fools keep electing me TG)

Cherokee Cowboy - Also a member of Cherokee Gun Club

Riverbend Rough Riders

South River Shootists (just re-upped).

I shoot 3-4 times a month. South River is the furthest club from me.

I shoot at five clubs in this area, and am a member at all of them. I appreciate the people who work hard and give their time to run these clubs. It's the least I can do to support them.

PS - Shooting Iron, if I'm derelict in my Texican dues, let me know and I'll pay up!

If I shot a monthly at a club more than a couple times a year I would join but I've not shot a monthly since July last year and I think it was the only match I shot there last year.

I am not a member of the club I shoot at because the membership process is very involved (private club) and I don't do enough shooting outside of cowboy action to make it worth the trouble. If it was as simple as sign up and pay dues I would probably do it, but you have to find a sponsor, attend certain events, and then get voted in like a country club.

I am a member of the two CAS clubs I shoot at regularly and was gifted a membership to an indoor range. One of the CAS clubs has it's own range and I am glad to be able to shoot there as often as I would like. The other is at a public city range and its a pay as you go.

I shoot at four clubs on a regular basis, and I'm a member at two of them. One is a full service gun club the other a cowboy club. The othe two clubs are both full service gun clubs. I might have considered joining them but both take down all of their targets after each cowboy match.

Over the years I have tried to support local clubs that did a good job in supporting the shooting sports, working on legislative issues and promoting the sport to new shooters, especially young and women shooters.

I supported 4 clubs until this year when I dropped one after 31 years due to significant dues increase and absolutely crazy rifle and pistol range rules.

Paying dues in the new year is always a bit trying and completing work hours and meetings at the clubs can be tough at times but it is worth the effort.

One of my clubs even adopted our CAS club when we needed a new home and continues to support us at monthly matches.

But, to the OP, I shoot at many clubs each month and could not possibly join them all.

It's important to support your local club.....yeah I know, you pay your fee and that should be enough.....but if you join you give the club additional money so that they can continue to improve....targets, props, stages, awards, etc.

If you can do it.....it all helps....think about your favorite club not being there....
