Trigger Mike Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 if you had a Colt 1911 commander would a drop in Ed Brown match barrel make it noticeably more accurate or just barely or not at all?
Happy Jack, SASS #20451 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 It would probably help, but would help more if a correctly fitted bushing were used with it. Ed Brown parts are extremely good. I use a lot of them. I only use Kart barrels though.
Bugs Bonney SASS # 10171 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 The only way a barrel alone will improve accuracy is if the tolerances are tighter than the barrel you took off. (assuming there is nothing wrong with the barrel you are replacing.) Several years ago I did an article where I tested several items to see if any really made a difference. I tried Colt spring steel finger bushings, drop in barrels and triggers, full length guide rods etc.. The only thing I found with my gun that made a measurable improvement was the Dwyer Group Gripper from Wilson Combat. It is a full length guide rod with a flat spring in the end that pushed up on the link that comes with the set. That part alone improved groups using a Ransom Rest. I can't speak for every gun out there but when it comes to one drop in part that made a difference in my gun that was it.
