Subdeacon Joe
https://ad67.asmrc.org/press-release/15017 Tuesday, March 1, 2016 Sam Spencer (916) 319-2067 SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Melissa A. Melendez, R-Lake Elsinore, today stood up for law-abiding Californians and opposed the broad, hyper-partisan gun control legislation pushed by Democrats in the Assembly Public Safety Committee. “This morning, the Democrat majority offered up the anti-gun lobby’s legislative package seeking to slowly abolish gun ownership entirely,” said Melendez. “All the while, local crime rates are surging across California. So you have to ask yourself, why are they trying to make it harder for law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families?” Today, the seven-member Assembly Public Safety Committee, on party-line votes, passed the following gun bills authored by three Democrats: AB 1663 (Chiu): would ban millions of lawfully owned rifles in California. AB 1664 (Levine): would ban millions of lawfully owned assault weapons in California. AB 1674 (Santiago): limits the ability to purchase more than one firearm in a 30-day period. This year, Melendez introduced a legislative package aimed at reducing gun violence and promoting responsible gun ownership without infringing on the 2nd Amendment. That package includes: AB 1869 (Melendez): Increases the penalty for stealing a gun from a misdemeanor to a felony. AB 2478 (Melendez): Increase the penalty for anyone who knowingly buys a gun for a criminal. AB 2540 (Melendez): Makes all gun safes and trigger locks valued under $1,000 exempt from the State Sales Tax for one year. “For years, California has been home to the nation’s strictest gun laws, however we’re no closer to legislating away violence,” said Melendez. “It’s time for the legislature to stop making criminals out of ordinary citizens and to start focusing on actual criminals.” Assemblywoman Melissa A. Melendez represents the 67th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar and a portion of Hemet. It also includes the Riverside County unincorporated areas of Lake Mathews, Good Hope, Nuevo, and Winchester. - See more at: https://ad67.asmrc.org/press-release/15017#sthash.bCbXHFpq.dpuf Link to comment
