Patron Saint of Cowboys?

Recommended Posts

The president, many congressmen, governors, mayors, and activists are anti gun, but that does not change the constitution or the opinions of the majority of the citizens of the United States.

Would you call the US anti gun?

Similarly the pope, many cardinals, bishops, priests, and activists are anti gun, but that has not changed church doctrine or the opinions of catholics here in the US and around the world.

We may be his flock, but we are not sheep.

Yes I see the hypocrisy. Francis has armed guards, but so does Obama.

Hope this helps,

What are you going to do when he issues a papal bull forbidding Catholics from owning firearms? If you think that cannot happen, think again. He is an anti-gun socialist who is determined to remake the church over to his view of perfection.

So can I. :D

Now in an effort to get back on topic, I had heard the story of St. Gabriel Possenti many years ago. I did not know or remember that he made his stand against Garibaldi's men. In the story they are describe as terrorists. At the time of our Civil War they were fighting to unify all of the city states into one nation of Italy. Garibaldi sent a handful of men to the US as a show of support for the Union. I am sure he was hoping to garner some favor from the US as well.

I guess it is another case of one man's guerrilla is another man's freedom fighter.

The apparent contradiction of the above opinions stems from this. The Pope can and frequently does make statements that are not necessarily official Church teaching. He is merely expressing his opinions on a variety of matters and is free to do so. He does not, and can not determine official Church Doctrines all by himself. If the current Pope holds this opinion about firearms, it is not the official Church teaching on the matter. As stated, the Church has always held to the doctrine of "Just War" which includes the right of self defense.

Hang up callers. We have a winner.

Just separate opinion, from dogma, and you have the answer to this puzzle wrapped in an enigma hidden in a crossword puzzle.

We don't need some new age, left-wing, feel-good space cadet as our Pope. I sure don't, anyway. Good way to drive away members of the Catholic faith. I hope the church takes care of this problem.

Just for your information Capt. R. Hugh Kidnme, the pope can, and has, unilaterally make or change church doctrines. It is called the "Doctrine of Papal Infallibility". Whileit has been many years since a pope has used it, it is there for his use. Any catholic who disagrees with him is subject to excommunication.

Thanks for the info.Your assumption then is that all prior Popes were pro- gun? As, they evidently had the same papal power.

And this Pope will be first in risking the loss of all the gun owning Catholics around the world, and their dollars, why???????????
