Not bad but since when did being a "private person" make one "notorious"?

"Some militia men are notoriously private people"

How about just saying that "Some militia men are very private people" without the negative sensationalism?

Sounds like some journalism majors indoctrination is poking through.

Gus, I think you're being overly-critical. Your only comment on the entire article is to complain about a single word? Really?

Myself, the article made me think it wouldn't be too bad to have those guys as neighbors. The Oregon folks, not so much. As for the two militias that backed out of the interview, we're left to wonder why. Overall, the piece seemed pretty calm and reasonable.

It is the media - no different than erroneously calling a semi-automatic rifle an 'assault' gun. I thought the article was fine overall.

Like I said, Not Bad but.... I see all of the Rose, including the thorns.

The inclusion of that statement is what's called a "Backdoor Zinger".

It's about the same as hocking a loogie into a great pot of chili.

Understand - I see the whole 'rose' too - in this case the rose was more attractive as not to focus on the thorns. ;)
