Texas Lizard Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 No info on rifle or shotgun ammo count...This will be my first time trying this one...
Texas Lizard Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Take LOTS of ammo! I am just worried I might have what is needed for rifle....Shotgun I might change idea from 10 ga back to 12 ga...Then I know I have enough... Sounds like a 3 pound black powder shot....
Chili Pepper Pete 11917 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 In another post Larsen said they have 35 shooters signed up for Plainsman, how cool is that!!!. Any information about how it is run and ammo count would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Chili
Ol Number4 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 We do know it will be divided onto two categories for men with 1st through 5th trophies and three places for women, but only one category. Ol' #4
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I don't have the stages in front of me right now. However, normal round count for main match stagaes is always estimated as 10/10/4. Ten rifle, ten pistol and four shotgun. Plainsman stilll uses 10 pistol and 4 shotgun but the rifle count is usally more like six or eight because you are single loading. So 8/10/4 times four stages will give you a good estimate of the number of rounds needed. Of course, always bring a few extra rounds in case of a reshoot, etc.

Blackey Cole Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Larsen if you know of someone wanting to shoot it but it's full let them have my place I'm not going to shoot anything but a warmup(maybe) and the main match. I signed up for plainsman and side matches but expected to be fully recover at the time.

Flying W Ramrod Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Last time I shot PM there it was 10/10/4+. Silly me was figuring round count based on State and Regional info of 4 or 6 Rifle. Had to run to 10x and buy three boxes of BP 45-70 loads to finish the match. I really like 10/10/4+ PM. Makes it really worthwhile and FUN. At the Shootout at Fort Miller, in Clovis CA, one year there was only one plainsman stage. 20 Rifle 20 Pistol and 25 Shotgun. Wining time was just over 2 minutes. They provided a card saying "I survived the Mother of all Plainsman" to everyone who finished. Oxygen was provided at the end of the stage

Better to bring eight too many rifle rounds than be short eight rounds. Truth be told we have not completed the Plainsman stages yet. The WB and CAS stages were done a long time ago and the shooter handbooks long since sent out for printing. As Old #4 noted in post number 5 Slix Products is providing the trophies for Plainsman so we have added "modern and traditional" as well as a separate category for women. This decision was made after the appication forms were printed SOOOO when everyone gets to the Plainsman event we will determine which categories people want to shoot in. The stages will also be printed on separate sheets and handed out. As soon as the stages are finalized I will post an update on the round count.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 OK, just got done reviewing the final Plainsman stages. Four stages. Round count 40 revolver, 24 rifle and 20 shotgun.
