Red Cent
"Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Sri Lanka this morning destroyed its ivory stockpile of 359 elephant tusks. Included in the stockpile which was crushed and then burned, was 1.65 tons of ivory confiscated in Colombo by the Sri Lankan authorities in 2012, when it was discovered concealed among wooden logs packed in shipping containers sent from Kenya. The seizure was the single biggest ever by the South-East Asian country." http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/ifaw-sri-lanka-destroys-359-elephant-tusks-300209789.html
Deuce Stevens SASS#55996
What a waste, could have made grips of every SASS member that wanted a pair.
Assassin
How many elephants were killed? That's a waste. Not a tree hugger, but to kill an animal just for financial gain and to leave it to waste doesn't say much for humans that would purchase ivory on the black market. Boggus Deal #64218
Put that ivory on the open market and drive the price down. Then poaching would slow down if there is no demand.
Springfield Slim SASS #24733
Idiots. Sell it and use all the money to hire anti-poaching Police/rangers, whatever they call them. The elephants are already dead, at least make their death count for something.

Deadeye George
Not only is it a waste, it's a hollow gesture! These tusks were from 359 elephants and yet estimates show that 50,000 elephants are killed every year for their ivory. With billions of dollars a year on the line, these pointless "feel good" displays mean nothing. It's akin to border patrol agents seizing then destroying one kilo of cocaine then proclaiming we are winning the war on drugs!

Assassin
Selling that ivory would be like putting heroin or cocaine on the market, and using the profits to fight the the use of heroin or cocaine. More people will want it for whatever the purpose. Personally, I don't know anyone that uses ivory or owns ivory. Just what is the attraction, it turns yellow and ugly like an old set of teeth. It all goes to Asia where it is used in aphrodisiac concoctions. They believe it works so the demand is significantly greater than supply.
Assassin
I have a beautiful wife and that is all I need for an aphrodisiac. And, I've never had to kill an elephant.
