Brand new Chiappa 87 is broken (I thought)

First outing with my tuned Chiappa 87 and it was working great!

4th stage I used it on, I loaded two and shot the first round, then it jammed and it wouldn't open all the way.

Needless to say I was disappointed thinking my '87 was living up to what most expect of them.

Today I finally figured out how to get the breech open and I was surprised by what I saw.

It wasn't the shotguns fault at all... thank goodness!!

So a piece of .38 brass got caught inside?

BTW, I just sent you a LONG email about creating a custom butt cover for my 1887. Pretty timely that you have one too!

You say you fired one round, no problemo, then trying to crank in the second round, a piece of rifle brass jumped into the action?.....While you were shooting the shotgun string?

Or, was that piece of brass already in the shotgun's action?

Was the piece of brass sitting on your hat and fell into the 87's top-opening action when you ejected the first round?

Do you have some perspective regarding how this happened?

Since the shotgun was staged on separate table from the rifle, I'm guessing it came from my hat and landed on the action prior to picking up the shotgun.

Hopefully that is a "1 in a million" occurrence. Hope you can make the Cherokee Match next week. I'd like to see your '87.
