Its been my experience as well that traveling to other clubs has been a positive encounter. Especially out of state... all new people.

Just can't do it as often as I'd like to.

Our first "far" out of town shoot was the North/South Dakota State Championship in Enderlin, North Dakota. Sunny and I felt like honored guests and the Sheyenne Valley Peacekeepers absolutely made our vacation.

Madd Mike is right- what a great game with great folks. ^_^

Whenever I go west with the camper I always look for local shoots. It's a LOT of fun!

Folks, I had prime rib, two boneless chickens sunny side up, hash browns and English muffin for $8, then proceeded in drinking top shelf beer from rowdy's pitcher.........others had $1 bloody Marie's

Life just don't got any better than that very large table of SASS friends

At Wolfy's?

I've shot in Pahrump a couple of times, and both times we went to Wolfy's for lunch after the match. Good grub!

I was in Virginia on a business trip a number of years ago and called the contact gent for the club in Roanoke to see if they were shooting the weekend I would be there. Figured I could shag brass and set targets. Turned out that they weren't shooting there but were shooting a match at a club up the road a piece, and he invited me to bring my leather and my duds, and they'd supply the guns and ammo. Ended up third in my category and sixth overall, and had a wonderful time!

I left active duty in November of 2004, shortly after returning home from Iraq. I had amassed almost 90 days of leave, so I was on "terminal leave," (i.e. I left the Army with a DD 214 in hand 90 days before my discharge date and got paid right up to the discharge date). During my terminal leave, I drove around the country attending SASS matches. It was a hoot :)

I've been in the Reserves ever since then, and I get mobilized to active duty pretty frequently. Every time it happens, I end up with a little terminal leave at the end and another DD 214 (a 214 is a release from active duty, not a discharge, so Reserve and National Guard personnel end up amassing a stack of them as opposed to our active duty counterparts, who get one). I've been mobilized now for 2 1/2 years! My civilian boss is a little cranky, but I don't care :)

Isn't it a real pain in the tush if not impossible getting pistols across the border?

Nope It is easyer to get pistols into Canada than to get a ATF Form 6 to bring guns into the US ...

You can get a 5 year ATT and a 5 year PAL that allows you to come and go for 5 years , then you just need to renew ...

I shoot with US pards every summer ...

I have not been able to renew my 5 year ATT. I sure would appreciate learning if that has changed. It sure will be a big pain to have to get a bunch of single ATTs.

Mud Marine ;

They are now issuing a 5 Year ATT attached to your PAL , Tell them about your SASS membership and send them a Copy of same ...

And keep after them about it ...

There are now Gumblings from Our version of Demi-crats about the need for more Gun laws ...

We try to travel to 2 out of state matches a year.

Visit other clubs around the state.

Feel sorry for folks who don't shoot with any other than home club...they miss much!

Well stated ma-am, they miss a lot

My 2016 New Year's resolution is to shoot at least one match in Saskatchawan, Alberta, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Utah, Wyoming and Minnesota. Perhaps, a match in SD and ND on the way and back from MN.

Of course, I hope to get to EOT. :)

I try to plan my RV vacations and travels to coincide with local shoots in the area I'm going to be in. My last one was a trip to Montana with a stop over in Jerome ID. for there Northwest Taritorial Shootout. The people couldn't have been nicer and the shoot was fantastic. I have since then decided to incorporate a local shoot out of my area on all my travels if I can. Always nice to meet new people! W. L.

Don't forget to get a copy of the shoot flyer and have it with you when you travel out of state. I believe there is a Federal law that you can travel to a shoot out of state with your hand guns as long as you have a flyer about the shoot and you can be out of state 48 hours before and 48 after the shoot with your hand guns and be legal. Of course the reality is that you will only be checked if you do something to draw attention to yourself.

No federal law... I believe that it may be an affirmative defense to NEW YORK law against "unregistered" guns into or thru NEW YORK. I've traveled all over the US with guns... still do, except that upper left corner... as they have the most restrictive of gun laws. I carry a varied type of freight, from paper products, store shelving and trade show displays... but refuse to go to NY, NJ or further east. Same as now I won't carry military freight, as they have now restricted me from entering bases while carrying weapons. Used to be, base security would secure my weapons and allow me entry, now they will not.

I have been wrong before but I think I am correct about this being a federal law. Maybe someone that is more versed with the law can chime in.

If it's not in a commercial vehicle, it certainly isn't in a personal vehicle. You may be thinking of advisories that don't suggest it. As in local laws vary so much that you could find yourself in violation of a local law/ordinance unwittingly. Cook County, IL falls in that category... why I don't go there either, and take the long way around when needed.
