Need Some AV Help, Please

I purchased an "us" present for Christmas. A DVD/Blu Ray player. It doesn't want to play with my receiver.

My TV is HDMI

My receiver is HDMI

My DVD/Blu Ray is HDMI

I would think, HDMI from receiver to TV, HDMI from receiver to Blu Ray and speakers as output from the receiver. I select the device I'm using from the receiver and I'm golden. I also have co/ax jacks on the receiver and TV but I can't imagine I need them, since I'm using HDMI. I do not have cable so that isn't an issue. I do have an external antenna and it works just fine.

Or should I just pay Geek Squad to come do it for me {money I don't want to spend if I don't have to}?

Thanks much,

I am not a tech guy, but have hooked up a few things to save on paying someone to do. If I'm reading this right everything is HDMI, receiver to tv sounds right, but the hdmi connection for blueray should go to tv, not the receiver, that is my take on it and I could be wrong also. But I have cable so my outfit is a little different.

My suggestion is go to youtube and check it out, type in what you want to do and go from there. Youtube has helped me out quite a bit for certain things.

All for now JD Trampas

P.S. Maybe somebody will come in and tell you what you need to do, quite a few experts on here for everything

Pay for a ticket and I will come fix it for you. :-D

Actually what you have been told is correct. The player should be hooked to the TV, then you need to select feed, usually in your menu. What brand and model and I will look up the info for you.

Video to TV, Sound to Receiver if it's a surround sound system. For better sound quality use optical cable. Not all receivers can transfer video.

TV = Samsung Smart TV - 1.5 years old

Receiver = Sony STR-DG510 - 4 to 5 years old

Blu-Ray = Samsung BD-JM57C brand new.

Took a look at your manuals. Here is what you need to do.

Connect the HDMI out on the receiver to the TV HDMI in. Make note of the jack number (HDMI 1, HDMI 2 etc.)

Connect the DVD player HDMI out to the jack on the back of the receiver labeled DVD HDMI IN.

Connect the jack on the receiver labeled DVD digital to the jack labeled DVD IN COAXIAL on the back of the receiver.

To watch Bluray Select DVD on the receiver remote and using the TV remote select the HDMI jack the receiver is connected to.

Let me know if you are still having issues.

Refer to the picture on PG 18 of your receiver manual. Becaue your BluRay player does not have optical out you need to connect it like a DVD player vice the bluRay

Thank you very much SD!! I was finally able to get things operating. We can't listen to over-the-air broadcasts in stereo but Uno doesn't like to listen to the news in stereo anyway. I was able to bring the BluRay player on line and it sounds wonderful.

Thank you again, Sedalia Dave. I really appreciate all the help!!!
