prophetic_joe
I'm 35 so not a ton older than your son. I might also suggest a good Double Edge safety razor, a brush and a good shave cream. Nothing quite like a classic shave. http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Merkur-30C-Black-Double-Edge-Safety-Razor-30011_p_1151.html http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Merkur-34G-Heavy-Duty-Classic-Safety-Razor-Gold_p_40.html http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Parker-WHBB-Black-Badger-Shaving-Brush-Faux-Ivory-Handle_p_1872.html http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Simpson-Special-1-Pure-Badger-Shaving-Brush-S1_p_555.html http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Simpsons-Case-1-Best-Badger-Shaving-Brush-C1_p_545.html http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Omega-599-Silvertip-Badger-Shaving-Brush_p_770.html Not a thing there will do you wrong really. I also have many vintage Gillette razors I could get you set up with a nice one, and a good vintage brush for a solid price perhaps even a trade of some sort. I started using a 1958 Gillette Fatboy razor about 8 years ago and have never looked back.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
Nice stuff, Joe! Last Christmas, Santa brought him a Merkur, several soaps, two mugs, a nice badger brush, brush hanger, bunch o' Feather blades, and a leather strop just for the heck of it. I got into the old razors and stuff. Started restoring them, brushes and DEs mainly, I have done a couple of straights but I only have the equipment to clean up the blades not hone them. Restoring a shaving brushes is actually a pretty rewarding experience but there isn't really a ton of money in it.

My dad would dump that stuff on liberally to say the least! ....Plus my beard grows in fuller and softer, my girl loves running her fingers thru it! MANLY SMELL! Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
Not cologne but a pretty good stocking stuffer with a pleasant scent. Cleans dang good too. They have 4 kinds. Lasts a long time too. Not like those girly soaps. From Duluth Trading. Just ordered some up. Should be here by Toosday. Hurricane Deck 100366
And way overpriced. Best pair of pants I've EVER owned are Duluth Trading firehose pants. Takes a few cycles of wearing and washing, but once worn in, they fit perfectly and are tough as nails. They are just about all the wife buys me when I need britches now. Grouchy Greg, SASS#71981
Yup! That and British Sterling. When I was a young single guy, I used British Sterling. Now that I'm a bearded old phart, I don't use much of anything.

Noz
Do I ever remember Canoe, splashed on in the 70s! Now, I can't stand the scent of any after shave or cologne. Being in an elevator with someone doused in Axe ...... enough to gag a maggot. See you down the trail...... Yup! Speaking of manly smells. Miss Lorrie and I go to the gym abefore 7 in the morning 5 days a week. She didn't feel well this morning so we laid out. Three of my close friends, all younger than I, have died in the past few weeks. I told her, after I had read the paper and discovered another friend was taken to the hospital last night with a stroke, that I was going to curl up in the corner and hide from the world. She told me I was going to put my shoes on and get my butt to the gym. Yes, Mam! Got there around 1:30 pm and discovered that my usual mix of old farts and young mothers was replaced by two high schools worth of 16 to 18 year old wrestlers, basket ballers and footballers. I had forgotten how much rutty high school boys stink! Worse than any old buck deer and nearly as bad as a coyote.
