Presidio Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I'll try to be serious after I'm done picking myself up from the floor laughing.........
Alpo Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Fortunately I am bilingual, speaking both American AND English. Otherwise I'd be sitting here scratching my head, thinking, "So?"
Tom Bullweed Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 We live in a society where the common youth garb is: 1. Baggy clothes based on ill-fiting clothes that one gets in prison 2. Printed boxes due to #1 3. Lace up work boots worn by people who either do not work and do not manual labor jobs 4. Ball caps with overly curved bills to replicate being carried ina pocket Theee boots do not surprise me a bit. We have a generation that wants to look like they and go to prison. They might as well look like they served in some fashionable military.
Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 How silly to have a zipper on a boot with buckles and laces. That is the epitome of laziness.
J-BAR #18287 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 So, yo' mama might actually wear combat boots??
Subdeacon Joe Posted December 13, 2015 Author Posted December 13, 2015 I just realized - the boot on the left is for the cavalry. That's a riding heel to keep the foot from slipping through the stirrup.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 How silly to have a zipper on a boot with buckles and laces. That is the epitome of laziness. Uh, I had lace-in zippers in my boots most of the time I was in the Army. Speeds thing up when you need them sped. Nothing to do with lazy (which I am and always have been). Not pretty, not official, not approved, but fairly well accepted in some places.

I prefer one or the other, not both. That said, if it made you happy, it makes me happy.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Being in a straight laig outfit we were issued GI regular boots. Some of the more, shall we say, enthusiastic fellows decided to purchase Cococran jump boots. The first thing was to have zippers installed. In their defense, they mostly did belong to a jump team that was using the Army facilities, so jump boots were part of the equipment.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 How silly to have a zipper on a boot with buckles and laces. That is the epitome of laziness. Behold... the WWII US Army issue M-1943 Combat Boot: M-1943 Boots Want a new pair...? New Boots
Tennessee Trapper Tom Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 They say many advances in society have their roots in things tried in the military first. Lol. Ladies fashion . Who'd have thunk
Utah Bob #35998 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Fasionable faux combat clothing has been popular since the 80s for some reason. Remember the scene in Stripes when Bill Murray was getting his TA50 gear issued? "Chicks in New York are paying top dollar for this stuff."
Noz Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The "old timers' in my unit in Europe in the early 60s talked about doing garrison duty wearing the buckle top boots and having to melt tins of shoe polish to get enough on the roughout boots to get some sort of a shine.

Yeah. The army issues rough out boots and then wants you to shine em.
Subdeacon Joe Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Yeah. The army issues rough out boots and then wants you to shine em. A busy soldier is a happy soldier.
