Well….White or Dark meat???

 

Anyone like the neck??? I always eat the neck!!

We never had turkey necks when I was a kid (Dad always got 'em) so I never developed a taste for them.

 

Prefer white meat, hot with left over gravy or cold with Miracle Whip. Either with whatever left over bread, biscuits, or rolls there are... if any.

 

I like hot open-face turkey sandwiches with gravy almost any time of year and mashed potatoes by.

Like both light and dark. Dark meat makes the tastiest soups and stews while white is best with gravy or on a sandwich with mayonaise. Mom always used the neck meat and anything thing else that came with the turkey to make the dressing to stuff the bird. Man do I miss that. My wife gives that stuff to the cat.

I prefer the light meat, but won't sneer at the dark.

Necks go into the stock pot and get cooked to a fare-thee-well, along with a lot of the rest of the carcass. I pick what meat I can off of 'em and that goes into a soup, or maybe gets ground up with some of the other meat and made into a spread.

Favorite part of a turkey dinner is the breast meat on white bread with mayo, salt, lots of pepper and lettuce the next day.

Joe - never tried it with lettuce.

 

Try some avocado, next time. Avocado and turkey go REAL good together.

 

If just eating the meat, I prefer the dark. As was said, it's more juicy. But if gravy is involved, then breast meat is great.

 

Necks, along with the giblets, gets stewed together to make the meat stock for the gravy. Cook it until it is falling apart, pick the meat off the neck, dice the liver and gizzard into little pieces, add them back to the gravy.

White for me, although I also like dark meat too. Leftover white meat with mashed potatoes and gravy tonight for dinner! Oh and stuffing too! Yum!

I love turkey! I have ever since I was a toddler. And my absolute favorite dish is a slice of white meat with a bit of cranberry on a leftover dinner roll.

Dark with cranberry sauce, is my favorite, but white with gravy over, on white bread is very good.

Cranberry sauce with either is mandatory.

I'm an Air Force kind of guy. When I was at Lubbock AFB in 1969 the officers mess for breasts and thighs, the Airmans mess got wings and legs. To this day I prefer wings and landing gear and call it Air Force Turkey (or chicken for that matter)
