Billy Boots, # 20282 LTG-Regulator Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 OK, i know many stay at Red Roof, Comfort, Super 8, and Studio 6 (stayed there several times), but reviews are getting bad for the those mentioned and I know in the last five years there has been several facilities built closer to Carefree Exit. My RV days at Pioneer are over for a while so just like to know your favorites north of Phoenix and near Ben Avery. Phoenix is certainly not a cheap place to stay in February but Winter Range is worth it. I missed last year first time since 2000, don't want to miss the Silver Anniversary for sure. Prices could perhaps get better as the event gets closer, but hate to gamble on that. Quote
Shooting Bull Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Two exits south, Courtyard Phoenix North/Happy Valley. (A Marriott property) Stayed there the past three years and love it. Easy access on and off the freeway. Lots of good restaurants very close by. Quote

Grizzly Dave Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I stayed at Red Roof last year, during the time some of the bad reviews supposedly covered and noticed none of the bad stuff they told of. Would love to stay closer but everything I have checked is much more expensive and I'm already bending the bank acount to the limit and beyond just going. One thing I will say is DO NOT stay at the motel 6 on Bell Rd. I checked in, and then back out within an hour three years ago. I would not stay there if it was free. But, as always, YMMV. Quote
Marshal Fire, SASS 10064 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I checked several on the internet and found the Residence Inn on the N. Black Canyon Highway. Price was less that the places around Happy Vally. The rooms are suites so plenty of room to relax and store gear. They are south of the range so traveling north in the morning is not a problem as traffic will be heavy into Phoenix. Use the gold I save to spend with the vendors as I know thy always have somethiing that I Need! Quote
Dapper Dynamite Dick Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 My wife and I stayed at Budget Suites of America on W. Yorkshire Dr off I-17 for 2 years, but never again, the clientele is getting really sketchy at that place. Too many drug deals in the parking lot. Quote

Blackey Cole Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 If you have an Rv with an extra bed I got a full hookup spot at Ben Avery. I'll be bring an enclosed trailer with my utv and gear been planning on a cot for worst case but if you got a bed I got a camp spot. Quote

BS That may be a great hotel, but I wouldn't use your mentioned criteria as a basis for your decision. I've never had a problem getting to Ben Avery no matter what direction I was coming from nor what time of day. Quote
