Hashknife Cowboy
I just happened upon a Marlin 39 22 Centenial Rifle. It is dated 1970 and has a straight buttstock with a brass cresent butt plate. The barrel is octagon and the end cap on the forestock is brass also. Are these rare or was there several made... Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Not all that rare, but a good find. Might be worth a premium over the Mountie carbine length (if in excellent condition), which itself has a premium price over the standard 39A rifle being made in 1970. From a gun valuation guide: MODEL 39 CENTURY LTD Marlin Centennial 1870-1970 Commemorative, 20 in. octagon barrel, select walnut straight stock, brass forearm cap and buttplate, name plate in butt. 35,388 mfg. in 1970. Good luck, GJ
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
These are very accurate rifles and are excellent for shooting lolly pops at side matches.
River Jordan, SASS 18742
They are great rifles. I have one and love it.
Gunsmoke Cowboy
Traded for one last fall, sold at Walgreens in 1971 for $73. NIB.Have the box, manual and original receipt with it. Slicked it up and it shoots great. Side matches lolly pop and the Lincoln County Regulators golf ball shoot don't stand a chance.
