The Swiss call it Waffenlauf

"Moser, born in 1945, running with his original issue K.31 (you are allowed to buy your rifle at the end of your service) and 1960s style field grey (tenu blau) wool military uniform and marching boots. Composite of photos from s8pmc.eu"

In the past century, these events have blossomed from pure military activities, to a sport of their own right. Current regulations allow for running shoes (for health reasons) but you still have run in uniform and pack a ruck that weighs no less than 13.6-pounds and includes either a standard Swiss Army Stgw 90 (SIG 550), Stgw 57 (SIG SG 510) or old school WWII-era K.31 bolt action rifle. Speaking of old school, one of the legends of the sport is Albrecht Moser, who picked up no less than 56 wins since the 1970s that includes at least eight national championships.

And it's all uphill. ;)

Both ways!

I never had a strong enough urge to run a marathon, although I did toy with the idea. Running one in uniform, with that much weight slung on my back? Nope, I will pass.
