Cabinet/Furniture Makers - Where To Find One

While Uno and I get settled in our humble abode, we noticed there is a lack of closet space. We have been looking for a wardrobe, much like they have in Europe, to take the place of a coat closet, or lack there of, in the entryway. I have yet to find one that's large/tall enough for our winter coats. I think we may have to have one crafted to fit our size needs.

Does anyone know of a reliable source for cabinet/furniture craftsmen?

Thanks much.

You should have a local cabinet shop in your area. They probably have plans on hand and can build a suitable wardrobe type unit.

I've installed many of them in classrooms for teachers in new schools. They can build the cabinet out of nice plywood or some type of laminant (formica). I could build one for you, shipping might be a problem from Wyoming.

Those things are not only oversized, but prohibitively heavy to ship. Get several recommendations on local cabinetmakers and see what they have to offer.

Best bet for recommendations might be several local residential builders to see who they use.

Google woodworkers in st. louis and you'll receive a few that are listed. I think by your discription you may be looking for an Armoire. Here is one I built and currently am building another for a silent auction. They are over 6' tall usually around 20" deep and maybe 36" wide such as this one.

Check out local antique stores & even craigs-list or e-bay (local only so you can pick it up).

I picked up a nice antique one with an oval mirror for less than I could have bought a new one.

Some places call them a wardrobe & others an armoire.

Great thing to have in my opinion. (newer enough closet space)

The trick is finding one you like for a price you don't mind paying.

Happy hunting.

Nice job. I like the detail on the door panels.

Thanks, all solid oak.(weighed a ton when I moved it up the hill) Most have the bar across to hang cloths, but I put in 5 shelves for more room. I'll do the same for the one I am making now.

Sounds like you are looking for a chifforobe or clothing armoire. I'm sure you can find one in any number of large furniture stores or antique shops. They can run the gamut from very simple and utilitarian to very elaborate and expensive. I remember seeing a couple of them in our house as I was growing up.

Contact Norman's in Ozark, MO; just south of Springfield. It's by appointment only so don't try to just walk in casually:

We have a dining room table and chairs, kitchen table and chairs, two pie safes, and several bookshelves from Normans. The quality is superb.

Plan to come down and shoot with one of the southwestern Missouri SASS clubs, and take home the furniture you need!! :D
