Pedersoli Sharps Trigger adjustment question

i recently purchased a beautiful preowned Pedersoli Sharps 45-70 and am having trouble with the trigger. According to the manual, the firing trigger should never be less than 3 lbs. after setting the set trigger. I have backed the trigger adjustment screw out as far as it will go without falling out and the trigger continues to be 1 lb or less and is almost impossible to accurately shoot because it fires by merely touching the trigger with virtually no pressure. Any suggestions?

The one I had if (I remember right) backing the adjustment screw out lessened the trigger pull. Screwing it in tightened it.
