Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Just finished watching an old (1945) Phillip Marlowe crime drama starring Dick Powell and Claire Trevor. Typical of the era, the plot is so convoluted that one can't remember what the original crime was or the motive behind it. Among many, the stand out line was Phillip Marlowe in third person narrative, describing his financial situation. "My bank account was trying to crawl under a duck." Gotta love that.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Why were all of the gumshoes in that era broke. Them and the reporters. He77, everybody was broke in that era.
Cholla Hill Tirador Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Watched John Wayne in "The Cowboys" this afternoon. Heard a classic line when John Wayne's character told one of the boys "...a big mouth don't make a big man."
Subdeacon Joe Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 "No, I brought you supper. Although if you'd prefer a lecture, I've a few very catchy ones prepped. Sin and hellfire... one has lepers." "Well, we may not have parted on the best of terms. I realize certain words were exchanged. Also, certain... bullets." "Well my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."

"Well, we may not have parted on the best of terms. I realize certain words were exchanged. Also, certain... bullets." "Well my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle." Not from a movie! No fair! Although, the show definitely had great quotes, if you will note my signature! Don't forget the part before my sig: "Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I'm not saying you weren't easy to find. It was kinda out of our way, and he didn't want to come in the first place. Man's lookin' to kill some folk. So really it's his will y'all should worry about thwarting."
Dawg Hair, SASS #29557 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Frankly my dear, I don't give a d!@#$! It's been said this was the most controvertial line spoken in any film, due to the Hollywood censors of the time.

Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 How the West was Won. The scene following the fight with river pirates. The old Scotsman, in prayer, surrenders the souls of the righteous dead to the Almighty, then adds that he's sending the Almighty the others' souls as well ... "whether Ye want 'em 'r not!"
