Howdy..A few Aussie mates recently shot EOT..they said real black shooters were hard to find..in fact, except for them hardly any real black was used in the Plainsman event.

Are the BP subs now the preferred..if so that's a shame..shooting the real stuff & doing well [ with everything that is involved ] is more than just creating smoke to shoot obscured targets..just my opinion..what say ye' !

I don't have any substitute in my house!! I've got plenty of real Black Powder, (ACBP) and I've got smokeless, (some semi autos don't like the black stuff) but NO substitutes.

Show me store in my area that still sells real BP and I would buy it. I prefer it over subs, especially for 12 gage loads.

I am not interested in ordering a pallet load and having it shipped to my house.

With the tough storage regulations by the Feds and some cities it is increasingly difficult to find real black powder for many folks.

No subs for me either. Real BP is easy to buy, load, clean, makes fire and smells right!

Real Black is all I use in my flintlocks but with the availability problem I use subs in my shotguns and anything percussion just because I can find it.

I haven't used a sub in over 10 years. I just split an order with a couple of other BP shooters and have it shipped to one of our houses. You don't have to buy a whole case, but it does help lower the price due to the haz-mat charge.

I use both. Mostly real black in shot shells, Pinnacle in everything else. May change to all black because I only have 11 lbs. of Pinnacle left. I don't really understand what all the disagreement is all about. You either make the smoke requirement or you don't. Getting BP around here is difficult unless I drive 75 miles or order by the case. And I never had any sisters so I don't know what it is like to kiss one.

Not around here Mohawk. There are a couple who use APP & 777, but the rest are using BP -- not that there's that many of us making smoke.

 

Subs in a Plainsman event just don't seem right, but if it's something one does only a couple of times a year, I can understand that. Subs are easier to find on the shelves and one or two bottles go a long way.

Not only do I shoot the REAL thing, but my 11 year old son does too. I loaded him some APP in his shotgun a few months back and he asked me not to do that anymore. Yup we LOVE GOEX here.

All I can find around here is substitute BP.

I bought 4 cases of Pinnacle when it was discontinued cuz it was dang cheap, so I'm still using that up. When it's gone, I'll go back to black in pistol & rifle. I've always used Skirmish #1 in shotshells.
