Dirty Scoundrel Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 WTB 1911 for Wild Bunch. Prefer Colt but open to others. Appreciated, Dirty Scoundrel
Dirty Scoundrel Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 Either so long as it complies with the WB regs but would lean towards modern.
Tom Bullweed Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Modern catgeory allows two-handed shooting (weak hand supports the strong hand). Modern allows adjustable sights. Best deals on traditional milspec guns are Springfield GI ($650 ish) and a whole horde of guns made in the Philipines and sold under various brands for under $500. Milspec Colts will likely run $850 and up for blued or $700 for a used 1991-A1. Good modern guns can be had for $700 and up for Ruger and Springfield Range. The range of guns is pretty wide in this category.
Goody, SASS #26190 Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 To expound on what Mr Bullweed said, if you get a traditional legal gun it can be shot in either category.
Dirty Scoundrel Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 Understood and thanks. Correcting my above statement I would be interested in a traditional model.
Bramble Mountain Buzzard Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Best bang for the buck: http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/pist-rockislfullsize1911a45pistol.aspx
Jackson Haller Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Howdy! CDNN (google it) has Springfield Armory mil spec 1911s in SS for $650. This is a good WB traditional 1911; I use one and know of another in our local club who does as well.

Jackaroo, # 29989 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 I have a Para G I Expert only just run in. Modern with lightened trigger, dot sights and $180 action job, very nice perfect for WB as new. Black parkerised with original black grips. $650.00 plus shipping. Let me know if interested.
Giddy Up Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I have a Kimber Custom II with night sights, It's mostly a safe queen. i bought it new and have about 500 rounds in it. It has cocobolo grips, and the only work done to it was replacing the sear spring with a colt spring and tuning the trigger down to 3.5 lbs through the spring, hammer and sear are untouched. $825 shipped.
Chili Ron Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Howdy, That rock island looks like a modern bargain. You could buy three or four of those for the price of the fancy ones, more. Get a flat mag and good to go. I always thought its too bad wild bunch wont let more styles of 1911 shoot. Shorter barrels are no advantage that I can see and that's what some folks have. Best CR
Neches 50502 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I have a norinco 1911 mail spec style excellent shape 500 plus shipping
Purgatory Pic Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Have an Auto Ordance 5" barrel, Black, perfect for Wild Bunch shooting....The front sight (FACTORY) is higher and wider than the traditional 1911 A1, and NO white dots, I've polished the feed ramp, chamber, and hood, very smooth, was purchased for Wild Bunch competition, but decided to stick with traditional shooting.... Shipped to your FFL for $500...Pics to your email or cell.... Thanks Purgatory Pic

Chili Ron Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Howdy, I don't know you but you say you want Colt, Ive had pretty good luck buying off the wire from pards. Seems to me an experienced shootin iron is better. But if you want a Colt, that would be fine. I don't have any fer sail. Best CR
SouthwestShooter Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Springfield loaded; minimum use; $650.00 plus shipping to your FFL
Buffalo Dick, SASS #12880 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I bought one of the current 70 series government model Colts in stainless steel about three months ago and have been very pleased. It has the higher profile sights, gobbles up everything I put in it and is an absolute tackdriver. Colt had apparently had a big sale on these to their distributors (in both blue and stainless) a few months back and there may be some deals out there still. I got mine for $890.
burlesonbill Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 If you want a Colt, and you want one as close to "real" as possible, here's one of Colt's actual reproductions of a 1918-vintage 1911. It's from a reputable dealer, in the original box and shipper sleeve, all paperwork, unfired, in the original Colt Carbonia-blue finish. It ain't cheap, but you do get what you pay for. http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_info.php?products_id=42020 I have no connection to this dealer other than being a very satisfied repeat customer. The price of $1295.00 ain't nothin to sneeze at, but I bet it's gone soon. And, as of 17:40 CDT, it's already on HOLD for a customer. Still worth looking at for a reference to what one should look like though. Many today do not realize that 1911's and 1911 A1's were NOT Parkerized until right before WWII, in the later 1930's. All guns manufactured for and during WWII were factory or arsenal Parkerized. Many of the re-treads that were available for sale in the post-WWII years had been arsenal refinished and Parkerized. The original early 1900's vintage 1911's were finished in Colt's patented "Carbonium Blue". This official Colt repro has that finish. If you don't want to ante-up for the "real deal", then I would get one of the Rock Island guns. I have owned 3 of them now, still have two, and they have all been shooters that required only minor polishing and tuning. The actual street price of a Rock Island is even less than the retail prices you see quoted. I bought a brand new black Tactical II model with the Novak-style sights for $459 at a local gun show, traded for the same gun used with the two-tone satin nickel frame and black slide for $350 with a couple of spare McCormick mags, and bought a GI-spec NIB for $400. If you check the shows or some of the online wholesalers like Bud's you can probably get a pretty good deal on one. There is a Mil-spec one on GunsAmerica right now, NIB, from a reputable dealer for $425. http://www.gunsamerica.com/956088198/ROCK-ISLAND-ARMORY-1911-A1-PARKERIZED-NEW.htm The Rock Island's are better than the old Auto Ordnance/Thompson guns from the 80's, or a lot of the other clones, I rebuilt a couple of those back in the day and they required much more tuning than my Rock Island's. Anyone who has ever worked on a 1911 platform can do a bit of polishing and tuning, or even add some match-spec aftermarket parts if they really want to trick it out, and have a fine, serviceable 45. Just my opinion I know, but I used to be a 'smith and have torn down and worked on a bunch of 1911's, plus owned a dozen or more. Shot bullseye back in the day with a couple that I built.
