Up for a challenge Garand owners?

Recommended Posts

8 shots off hand at 50yds, and 8 shots offhand 100yds. Using NRA 50FT pistol targets. Take a picture of the results.

I'll put up the prize.

Have 2 excellent Hardbound copies of "Raylan" by Elmore Leonard from which the TV series "Justified" was based on. 1 to top 50yds, 2nd to best 100yds. Can enter for each, but win only 1 book. Interest? If so, cut off will be July 31 Midnight. MT

I wouldn't have a chance at winning, but I'd do it for fun. Only problem is, there's no way I'll have time to shoot before the 31st. Next two weekends are chock a block full for me and the range is closing by the time I get home during the week.

Well lets extend it. Final August 17. That gives 31 days to come up with a target to post.

Any other ideas? I'm open to having some fun, I won't compete, I know what I can do bench rest. Let's see your best at 50 and 100yds, iron sights, 8 rounds each target, use NRA 50ft pistol targets for both. Must be posted by Midnight August 17, (yes, 2015). Honor system prevails. MT

Can we do it from a foxhole? :D

Sure why not. You can even dress your target up like a nazi if you want.

All my targets are Nazis

in my mind.

Okay some are ISIS.

I'm interested if I can locate some NRA 50yd targets.

Let me know if you do.

All I have is some 50 foot pistol targets and some shotgun turkey heads.

Maybe that would work, Marshal? :D

The great SASS Turkey shoot.

I'm glad someone caught that, I'm going to have to go back and correct every post. I messed up thinking yardage with 50 and 100 competition not thinking, (at my age, the excuse sometimes works except with cases of the wife).

IT's 50FT NRA approved Pistol Targets. I'm sure most 50foot pistol target will conform.

50 FT.

Thank you, MT

That is not fair. Just not fair.

Some of us are not that focused.

Focused or obsessed? ;)

Dew Utah get extra points for shooting with a bayonet attached?

I don't have an M1 or M5A1 bayonet but I could duck tape my sword

bayonet from my 1858 Enfield. Since it is longer and uglier, I should

get extra points for that.

I am finding two different approved 50ft targets. Slow fire and rapid fire, with different scoring rings.

:o I would use the Slow, unless your real good and want to use the smaller black area Rapid fired targets. Slow are also about 91/2 circle, Rapid is 81/2" outside circle. Use your descretion. Total points count. Ties broken by best smallest grouping of the 8 shots. But must be pistol targets for 50 FT. (I got straightened out on that).

Also, foxholes, drainage ditch, rest or shooting standing, kneeling, or laying with/without support. Shooters choice. This is for fun, bragging rights, and a good book to read. MT

I figure I will use the layabout position to shoot.

You know, that in addition to getting my target frame up

and holding, I will now have to wipe down the excess storage

oil from Ole Betsy, and swab out the bore. That is a lot of exertion

for me on a warm sunny day when I could be fishing. :D

In addition to that the club is having their CMP high power shoot

the last Sunday of the month. I just gotta go to see that and hear

all that PINNNNGGG.

What those 5.56 shooters miss. :D

Well the targets I have on hand are Kleen Bore targets

Labeled Competition QB-3

At the top it is labeled:

The National Rifle Association

NRA OFFICIAL 50 FT. TIMED AND RAPID FIRE PISTOL TARGET NRA

The six (6) ring is 8 3/8 inches across

The black nine (9) ring is 3 inches across

The Ten (10) ring is 1 3/4inches acorss

and the red bull (X) ring is 1 inch across.

ED: I an not certain that I can see that small black circle at 100 Yards.

Heck, I am not certain that I can even see the white target at 100 yards.

Oh well, what ever it takes.

I've never shot my Garands at 50 or 100 yards. Shortest range is 200 then 300, 400 and 600 yrds. might have to go to the range and see if they have a 50 yrd position.

Easy. Just pace off a hunnert yards forward of the firing line and blast away.

My range here is limited to a little over 100 yards do to the canyon wall being the backstop. ;)

Recently, I read about some M1 Garand shooter that was loading 125 grain lead bullets

and shooting them from his Garand. I am not a real fan of the 125 grain bullet in a 30-06

and the barrel is not designed for them in the Garand, but this guy was looking at the bullet

and asking for information. I would think that barrel leading would be a problem, and if you

drop off below 1200 f/s accuracy would most likely go looking for my youth. Does anybody

shoot the lead bullets and would 125 grain work?

I am kinda like Sgt Schultz, I know Nothing.
