Navy Chow Changes

I've been reading about major changes to Navy chow. No more fried foods. Soy or skim milk only. Changes are supposed to be made effective fleet wide effective 2017. You can read the details in the below link to the Navy Times. There is also discussion on going decaf in some of the discussion boards. Can you imagine sailors with no fried food, soy milk, and decaf coffee?????

The Chiefs will be revolting!

I suspect that I know who is behind this.

Yeah... and she was NEVER elected to anything in her life.

I'm getting really fed up with the heads of our government and their minions using the military to enforce liberal social issues. They are turning most of our forces into Meals On Wheels with guns and armored vehicles. NOT PART OF OUR MILITARY MISSION!!!

Makes me sick.

I think the next step will require all Social Security recipients to follow the school lunch rules. This will be followed by back ground checks to purchase burgers and fries.

If that wasn't so disturbingly possible it would be funny! :o

One of the few moral boosters hen deployed is a chance to eat some comfort food. Wonder how much lower moral has to get before the military starts having recruitment issues.

Sign posted at the next unit picnic.

Limit of 1 obama burger with baked tofu sticks per person. Individuals that scored excellent or above on the last two consecutive PT tests may also have a bloomberg approved soy shake for desert. :( :( :(

They already are having recruitment issues. The recruits they are getting, for a large part, are not quality material. You may (or may not) be surprised at the numbers and types of waivers being approved.

As far as chow is concerned - my last deployment was on the Harry S Truman. Quite a bit of what was brought onboard were "Stoffer" type meals - precooked. All the Mess Specialist had to do was pop it in the oven to heat it up.

Very few ships have true "bakers" any more. Most breads are purchased.

And all of the ships have gone to what I refer to as a common core menu system. The Chief's Mess and Wardrooms serve the same meals as the crew's mess.

I miss being at sea, but not the politics that have become so prevalent.

I don't think there is anything wrong with moving toward a healthier option in military diet, but it really should be an option. And Soy? Soy has many bad side effects that need to be considered, preferably by independent scientific inquiries, before being optioned. It sounds to me that the big agribusiness, which has a huge influence in today's political climate and huge investments in soy, is at play here. Pretty much the entire administration and congress is bought and paid so this should not come as any surprise.

Yet.

Remember, she's movin' to California. Likely shoo-in when DF retires. :(

Freedom fries no more: Sailors angry after Navy bans fried food

....

But not everyone is welcoming the changes.

"Certain foods, you can't get the flavor and texture you can get from the fryer, and when you're deployed that's one thing you have to look forward to," Culinary Specialist 2nd Class (SW) Adrian Watson, told Navy Times.

Others took to Facebook to vent their frustration.

“This isn't a Weight Watchers cruise, it's the goddamn Navy! Does that mean no cakes and desserts, too? Working 18 hours a day on the roof you need carbs to keep you going. If you're stationed ashore, you can go to the EM or PO clubs or to town and get all the crappy food you want,” wrote user Jeff King.

Some current and former service members are also blaming Michelle Obama and her healthy school initiative, although The First Lady is not involved in setting nutritional policy for the armed forces.

No doubt in my mind that the Chief's mess will be more than pleased to accept these few changes, when Hell freezes over. Sagerider

We all know that Chiefs are quiet, reasonable, soft-spoken gentlemen and always on the cutting edge of social change.
