Fascinating past of 'shy and retiring' Eileen Burgoyne uncovered as police find working sub-machine gun and ammunition at Twickenham home

The fascinating life of Eileen Burgoyne, described by neighbours as shy and retiring, was disclosed after her quiet street was evacuated and cordoned off as police carefully explored the house she had previously occupied.

Ms Burgoyne, who lived out her retirement there for more than 20 years until her death in 2014, had worked for the intelligence services immediately after the Second World War.

She was posted overseas for the Combined Services Detailed Interrogation Centre (CSDIC), which operated interrogation centres around the world.

And among the cache of weapons discovered at her home by a team of builders was a Sten sub-machine gun, an austere British 9mm weapon used throughout the Second World War, known for its simple design and cheap production costs. The gun was found in full working order.

Yep...it's the quiet ones you have to watch.

Lousy article. Why a bomb scare and what is a cache of weapons?

In Britain that would be about two weapons.

And they could be knives.

Or pointed sticks. ;)
