Boggus Deal #64218 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 That gun is probably nickel plated. Not stainless.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Tough to chop barrels on nickel guns. Usually requires strip and replate the barrel... AFAIK, no one has ever made stainless Colt C&Bs or even any clones of the Colts in stainless. Good luck, GJ

Rafe Conager SASS #56958 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 might be cheaper to buy replacement barrels from Numrich then keep originals for later Rafe
Fingers McGee Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Tough to chop barrels on nickel guns. Usually requires strip and replate the barrel... AFAIK, no one has ever made stainless Colt C&Bs or even any clones of the Colts in stainless. Good luck, GJ Colt's made, marketed, sold, warranted and will letter the stainless steel 1851 Navies, 1861 Navies, and 1860 Armies made in 1982 as part of the F series of Second Generation Percussion Colt's. Uberti made 16 different models of stainless steel percussion Colt's between 1983 and 1987 that were sold through Southern Muzzleloader Supply in Angleton TX, and Allen Firearms (which became Cimarron) in Santa Fe, NM. The Colt's are rare - (only 1596 1860s and 490 1851 Navies and 8 1861 Navies were made) - and no one knows how many of the Ubertis were made. I have to echo Tom Bullweed's G A S P ! !. I sold a pair of SS 1860s cause I couldn't bear to shoot them, much less cut the barrels. I had no trouble shooting 4 of the five Ubertis I have though. Fingers (Show Me MO Smoke) McGee PS. The GB listings are about 25% overpriced Doc.
Earl Brasse, SASS #3562 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 At the price, you would think that Uberti would start making some of their current best sellers in stainless. It would be a way they could have a "new product" that shouldn't take too much work. A high polished pair 1851, 1861 or 1860's would not be a bad thing.

Gran'pa Jef Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 That gun is probably nickel plated. Not stainless. More than probably... Don't destroy it, it's a collector; buy Piettas, they work well! Jef
Navy Six Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I just sold--about 9 mos. ago--a NIB 2nd gen stainless Colt 1860 Army. I just don't care for the look of these guns in stainless. At least I never fired it as I knew its relative scarcity and it should end up with someone who appreciates its attributes--and it did. Try to find another way around cutting that barrel.
