Uberti dust cover detent ball - a cheap replacement

Recommended Posts

If like me, you lose and then buy some of the tiny detent balls for dustcovers on Uberti 73s.

Here's a cheap replacement. #2 steel shot from a waterfowl shotshell. One shell replaces about 150 detent balls, which are about 0.150" diameter. The Fed shell I cut open even has copper plated shot. Just don't use a #2 lead as it's going to wear quickly.

Beg or steal one from your duck hunting buddy or your own hunting rounds.

Good luck, GJ

Well, I tried a BB first, and it was larger than the screw hole, which is designed to let the ball out from under the cover for easier assembly and disassembly. #2 shot fits thru the hole like the factory detent ball does, and has the same, very light, pressure against the cover so you don't add any more force to the lever working the action if the dust cover starts out closed - although I never close mine, even in EOT dust devils.

Good luck, GJ

Yep, there's at least three shotshells full of those factory Uberti detents under my feet in the workshop. Oops, there I go again. Another slip.

You having a slow day, Philly? We could water down the boardwalks again...
