St. Louis Suomi SASS #31905
Howdy: I believe I saw it somewhere on this forum that ADI/Hodgdon was discontinuing the Clay series. Or Possibly some of the clay series of powders. Try as I might, I cannot find the article on the web. Can anyone direct me to the article inon this forum or the wev? I would be most appreciative. Jackaroo, # 29989
I don't think Clays as such is to be discontinued. The ADI factory is just making some some changes to its powder designations, cause they are improving the product. The powders made and shipped here to the USA by ADI and packaged by Hodgson are given different names. For example Clays is the same as AS 30 S or AS50 S the names given to it in Aussie. ADI sell AS & AP 30, 50 & 70 N powders in Aussie but could be Clays, or HP38 according to Hodgson. So whatever new powder or designation it comes out will probably be the equivalent of Clays but may have a new name, and be better. That's how I read it and by what I've been told by my cowboys back home.

Probable reason is to incorporate the use of newer methods of manufacture, that will lead to lower manufacturing costs. There's little doubt that the new powders will retain their current level of performance. Name changes are very possible, if load data changes are necessary, to prevent any confusion in their use. FYI, HP-38 is NOT product of ADI. HP-38 is the EXACT formulation as that of W-231, and is produced by St Marks Powder Co. of Crawfordville Florida, as are ALL Ball powders sold in the USA. St Marks is the sole manufacturer of Ball Powders in the USA.
