45 LC length for conversion cylinder

Come On Christmas

Recommended Posts

i just ordered my Howell conversion cylinder for my 44 Pietta 1860.

How much shorter do run the bullets? I usually run minus 15/1000 on my OAL than spec.

Ah, Why?? The norm is to crimp into the crimp groove. Same with a Howell cylinder. Unless your planning to shoot some massive 350 Gr elephant stomper, just crimp in the crimp groove and you should be just fine.

Crimp where you think you want it, then put the round into the cylinder. If the bullet is short of the end, shoot it.

A trick I learned running 44 WCF and 45 LC through a 92 lever gun is to decrease the OAL 15/1000. They cycle much mo betta.

Reading Howells recommendation they suggest 45 Schofield through the conversion. They b shorter. I had thought skimmed a blurb saying folks b running shorter 45 LC through the conversion.

Hence my query.
