Help! Posting Videos

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

One of the pards asked me how to post a video on the Wire. As I didn't know, I looked for instructions. Several said to copy the embed code, which I did from YouTube, and paste it in the text box, which I did.

However, all that showed up was the code, not the video.

Would someone kindly explain how it is done?

Thanks,

Allie

Open the video in another window or browser tab. Select the entire URL and then copy it.

Come back to this text box and paste the url to its own line. Be sure to hit enter after pasting the url.

Sometimes I don't know why but the video preview doesn't show up and all you get is the url as a link. but if you click it it will open.

The way I have done it is simple.

Find the video you want on Youtube.

Open the video (play it) - copy the address bar information and paste it within the thread post on the SASS wire.

Tada - posted video

I do the same thing and it works most of the time although occasionally is doesn't. I think it has something to do with which browser/OS you are using and which plugins you have installed. It also seems to not work around the time frames that I receive updates to my browser and plugins.

One setting I do have customized here on the wire is that everything is pasted as plain text. You can set this in the option button. It is the top right icon when using this window. Looks like a gear with a wrench.

Look a your link text string and see if it starts with http or https. For me the http gives the preview picture and the https gives just the link text string.

I've encountered this on other forums. It's how the software recognizes a character string and decides some action to take. It's like the emotions inserts. They are a strang of specific characters and when the software sees that string, it substitutes a graphic image.

With the vid open in youtube, I pause it, look under and click on share, it pops up a URL that is already highlighted, I right mouse click and copy the URL and then just paste it here. Like others, I have found it works most of the time, and is sometimes necessary to put the URL on a separate line, with a space and a return after it.

and sometimes that doesn't work, hmmm, lets edit that without the s following http like someone suggested

Look at the https. Try editing out the "s" to make it just http.

that did not work either.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I suspect there is code that we cannot see and depending on how we edit the url affects this code and the visibility of the post.

You don't need the [url code in front or back of the string. Just start out with http.

Nothing I tried worked for me?

That time I didn't open the video, I right clicked the name of the video and clicked copy link address, pasted, hit enter and posted and it worked.
