Coyote Kincaid
Getting some projects done this weekend and finishing up all my goodies for Frontiersman. Does anyone have a picture of what one of these look like to seat the cap. I wasn't sure how blunt the end needs to be because I don't want to set one of these off with a load in it. Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
A flat end about the diameter of a bic pen. I used a sawed off wooden short starter from a .32 muzzleloader till I lost it. I have used a piece of 1/4 inch dowel set into a wood handle. If I remember, I'll photograph mine when next I go upstairs. --Dawg
Cat Brules
It needs to be rounded and blunt. The "pointed" end should be a couple times, at least, the size of the cap...should be easy to get in there. Sanded smooth and polished on a piece of carpet or leather. Doesn't have to be antler material; hardwood will work. Mine is carved from red oak. Make sure your cap seater is not harder than the cap material. Colorado Coffinmaker
A couple of my Pietta Snubbies came with loading "tools" with a concave end. Work a treat so far. We're not trying to shove the cap thru the cone. Just press it home. Coffinmaker
Blue Wolf , SASS# 29424L
I made this from two antler pieces. Just filed the tip to fit cap.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
I carry my seater on a leather thong around my neck, along with a nipple pic and a neck knife. The neck knife is on a separate thong. --Dawg
Coyote Kincaid
Thanks guys. I'll see what I can do today.
Cat Brules
I forgot to say something about the angle: It may not suit you and most of these examples don't have it, but see how, in the photo, the tip of Blue Wolf's cap seater is angled? I found that an angled configuration similar to his works best for me.
Noz
You beat me Cat. The square tip will leave one side of the cap a little high. I carry mine on a chain with the capper on the other end.
Sixgun Seamus
The neck knife is on a separate thong. --Dawg Dawg wearing a thong? UGH! Now I can't finish my breakfast with that picture in my head
John Henry Quick
I just use a little wooden swizzle stick - it keeps my fingers away and it bends, so there's little chance of me ever exerting too much pressure.
Dakota Brown
Here's mine, with a pick on the other end. Two tools in one. DB
Blackey Cole
Mine is real small with a leather thong through it. About two to two and half inches long about 1/4" at its widest end and a little larger than a cap at the smallest end. I carry it a a military ball pouch. I also have a screwknife with tips that allow me to push the caps on with.
