Mad Dog McGee
A pard told me about Alliant Black MZ. Anyone know anything about it? NOT that I'll be using it, I have no trouble with Goex 2F. I love to see the SMOKE and FLAMES! Just like it was in the old days! Thanks in advance! MDM
John Henry Quick
A pard told me about Alliant Black MZ. Anyone know anything about it? NOT that I'll be using it, I have no trouble with Goex 2F. I love to see the SMOKE and FLAMES! Just like it was in the old days! Thanks in advance! MDM A friend of mine uses it and he says it's the only substitute that DOES have sparks and flame. I would give it a try, and probable will someday, but I've still got 22 pounds of APP and about 25 pounds of real gunpowder.
Cusz M. Dutch SASS Life 55326
what is in it and is it legal?
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
I have read that it is made by American Pioneer Powder for Alliant per Alliant's specs. I use it in BP shotgun shells for out-of-state matches since it is neither corrosive nor hydroscopic. I just shot Bordertown with it with success. It is about the same grain size as APP's FFg (meaning pretty coarse). I leave it to the rules committee to state whether it is legal or not. It's really very similar to APP. Are you able to use a filler with it at all?

John Boy
Make sure that the barrel is clean and totally dry (swab barrel with dry patches until there is no evidence of moisture).Per Alliant ... since it is neither corrosive nor hydroscopic Sounds corrosive to me when exposed to moisture Might want to read the MSDS on Black MZ... Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
The label on the bottle says "virtually non-corrosive." That is my experience. However I shoot almost exclusively in arid locations so the experience of shooters in humid locations may be different. Regarding fillers, I have no knowledge or experience with fillers with Black MZ.
